A man in Italy was drugged, murdered, dismembered and populated in a bin by his mother and partner allegedly for failing to set the table for dinner. The two women also used quicklime to mask the human odor and attempted to cover up this crime altogether. To their ultimate downfall, the mother confessed to this heinous crime. In contrast to the actions of the perpetrators, the strategizing of the gruesome crime made headlines, but the media coverage and public outrage was tame.
Usually, male perpetrators of domestic violence against women are characterized, pigeon-holed, and endlessly exploited as a part of patriarchal wide narrative, male perpetrators on the other hand, are vilified, and also nearly always put into the larger context of patriarchal or misogynistic hatred of women narratives. This is not a slant about anyone or anything, only a reality show of media narratives, outrage, and grassroots activities.
So in this case the very notions of aided and abetted female cruel murder, male killing, and even what I might see as the gender of victimization in legislation including the female homicide laws were denied and ignored by nearly every media broadcast and news article. The partner is described to have had postnatal depression along with the mother being described as a "good neighbor". No one is questioning whether this was a hate or gender-motivated murder. If the genders were reversed, many in the country would be outraged to the maximum degree and rightly so.
This is an instance that highlights the massive asymmetry that exists in cultural and legal contexts relating to gendered violence. In cases where men are the victims, they often remain invisible.
