"The area of paddy fields in East Aceh Regency reached 16,467 hectares and the majority of the fields are rain fed," he said.
Head of Food Crops Office of Agriculture and Plantations of the Province of Aceh, Safrizal, SP, MM, in his speech said, the regional heads together with heads of regional offices are expected to boost the area of planting land, both paddy land or dry land. "Our target for this year is that Aceh can produce 1.7 million tons of rice or 1.1 million tons of rice," he said.
Increasing production, continued Safrizal, it is necessary to plant in dry land such as inland rice or upland rice. "At present the grain production in the January - May 2020 period has produced 1.1 tons of unhusked rice. East Aceh Regent H. Hasballah HM. Thaib, SH, in his direction hopes that the Aceh Government can assist in the procurement of pomponisasi in a number of sub-districts such as Ranto Peureulak, East Idi, West Peureulak, Peunarun and Simpang Jernih, so of course the grain production can be more surplus. "Today we admit that some districts have irrigation and pumping networks, but most of them are still rain-fed rice fields," he said.
Therefore, the regent hopes that the Aceh Government's support through the Agriculture and Plantation Office, both in the supply of pumps and irrigation networks. "Hopefully in the future East Aceh Regency will be able to provide grain stocks for several regencies cities in Aceh, including some areas in North Sumatra," said the regent, who is usually called Rocky.
Likewise with the right-wing irrigation network, Rocky hopes to finish soon, so that 4,000 hectares of rain-fed rice fields in Nurussalam and Darul Aman Districts can be irrigated. "If this is realized at the end of this year, the stock of habitation in 2021 will be even more abundant, especially as rice farmers can plant rice twice a year 2-3 times per year," said Rocky.
