The much loved physicist Stephen Hawking passed away, in his home in Cambridge this morning, on Einstein's birthday. Coincidentially, also on the day of π (3.14). Hawking was one of the most important, if not the most important cosmologist of the 20th century. He is known for the theory that black holes emit radiation (called "Hawking" radiation), for being the first to propose a theory of cosmology explained by a union of the general theory of relativity and quantum mechanics and for his characteristic sense of humour.
As a modest tribute to this great man, I would like to share one of my favourite discussion videos that features the three legends: Carl Sagan, Stephen Hawking and Arthur C. Clarke, all of whom have as of today, passed away.
Enjoy!
