
One hundred years ago today, some 4,000 of their fellow citizens were rounded up and jailed for what amounted, in most cases, to no good reason at all and no due process, either.

This incident and other like it prove that The Constitution is no more than words on paper if enough people aren't prepared to stand up to such violations. Thomas Jefferson once famously said "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants." I like to think that with enough awareness and understanding that the "tree of liberty" could be refreshed in other ways. However, history would seem to suggest otherwise.
