A second world war naval anti ship mine was found earlier this day on the shores of the old town of Dubrovnik, Croatia. A strong sea storm washed it ashore, on a popular local beach just outside the city walls.
The police sealed off the beach area, including the street above it as they are working with local fire department on safe removal. The mine was declared inactive due to long water exposure and and the fact that it's "just to old" as a local police officer explained.
Nature once again serves as a teacher. It reminded us today of humankinds dark history and a sad present - the tools of a long ago finished war are still floating around, while we continue to make new ones.

The storm that washed the bomb ashore also brought a lot of debris, from branches, mud and logs to plastic and iron. The entire old town port is filled with this garbage, the town folk is angry as public cleaning services are unprepared and are "hardly doing anything. It is up to the citizens once again to fix this problem themselves", stated Damir Mičić, a local resident, on his Facebook page.
Although a beautiful and often packed tourist summer resort, Dubrovnik citizens aren't happy with the fact that the local officials are focused too much on the profitability of the summer season, ignoring the everyday problems like internet and electricity shut downs and no drinkable water during rains and heavy winds, which are quite often during the winter season.
