The Smart Display offers more functionality compared to an iPad.
Two versions of the device:
8-inch full HD screen (US$200)
10-inch full HD screen (US$250)
The Lenovo Smart Display runs on Android & it’s OS is been developed for the notoriously insecure IOT.
No need to speak loudly
The Lenovo Smart Display allows users for video calls, play music, web searches, calendars, YouTube. It has collaborated with Google Duo video calling and Google Photos. But Android can run only one application at a time. Both versions of the Lenovo Smart Display have a 10W speaker with tweeters and both offer multiroom audio support. They have two microphones that are very sensitive to understand commands spoken softly. Voice commands are the main interface but the device also has a touchscreen for follow-up actions such as zooming in on a map.
The 10-inch version can be stood horizontally in landscape mode or vertically in portrait mode. It comes with a privacy shutter to block the camera and a microphone mute toggle setting. Though 10-inch device can be set up in portrait mode but it's useful only for Duo video calls. The device can be set up to recognize different voices which is been attached to different Google accounts but the display will default to showing information from the primary account.
Users can make video calls through Google Duo / regular phone calls but the device is trying to make a Google Duo as a primary option. Users can set the default music player to Spotify / one of Google's music services. The Smart Display also supports video services such as HBO Now, CNN, and Fox News. The Lenovo Smart Display supports the same suite of Google Actions as the Google Home smart speaker. But important to note is Smart Display users must need to ensure they have Google Home, Google Assistant & Google Duo applications installed.
These type of Smart Displays can be used as a hub in the smart home.
