If the new proposal goes through... It will give sweeping to powers to publishing giants to tax anybody who uses parts of text in hyperlinks.
That means, I 'd have to pay money to link you to this fantastical article on the topic:
https://openmedia.org/en/press/eu-commission-formally-proposes-link-tax-european-parliament-part-new-copyright-directive
Or This one (that goes a bit deeper)
https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2017/03/leaked-report-slams-european-link-tax-and-upload-filtering-plans
But hey, that's what governments are for. Helping massive corporations and making sure they make as much money as possible.... from us... while stifling free speech! Whee!
IF any of you wants to voice your opinion, there is a petition running here:
https://savethelink.org/eu
Fortunately, I believe we could just change our I.P outside of the E.U to get around (or be posting on any blockchain based social media platform ... like this one! )
On the other hand: MAYBE this kind of absurd law would wake people up and help them realize what is truly going on here.... (hint... it's starts with an F and ends in an M!)
But, I think it's best we stop this thing in it's tracks! Sign the petition and let's keep telling all our friends to get over to steemit/gab.ai/onG.social and any other platform that is build.... for the people!!
Much love.....
Sasha
