Hello everyone, welcome to my post!
Its coming up to the last few weeks until my GCSE coursework is due in and for my exam question i chose the category of light and dark. Meaning i need to choose a picture with a striking contrast in tone (usually a solid black and white image). So i have to choose an artist or photographer or sculptor etc. and try to do my work in the style of their work. For the second part of my coursework i chose the artist Chuck Close, and i'm not even lying when i say he's amazing. His drawings genuinely look like pictures. So i put myself through the struggle and decided to pick him under a strict deadline - nice one Cody.
So here's my work with just a base layer on and the attempt at his eye started, I never know how well something will go until its completely finished so i tend to just stick with it throughout the entirety of the process.
Now i can comfortably say I've spent roughly around 9 hours on this so far (on the image below), and my hand, eh, it's close to giving in. I wanted to really step up my game in order to achieve the Grade 9 that i'm trying my best to get, and i knew that just using a pencil wasn't going to cut it, so within my work a compass has been used to indent the paper for skin texture and wrinkles (sorry Barack), a weird metal thing with a tiny point which i found under my wardrobe has also been used to indent obvious pores in his skin, especially around the nose and cheeks, and I've even used eye-shadow in the suitable shades to achieve a pretty smooth base for the skin. There are some people that are just really enjoyable to draw, and Obama is one of them.
So here's my work now after I've done all of the processes stated above, and compared to the first one, it makes it much clearer to see how using really simple things like a compass can make a substantial difference.
Even though i am only half way through my work, I do admit i'm kinda liking where i'ts heading.
Thank you very much for reading!
