How To Use the NLE Calendar

In this article I'm going to explain how the calendar works and how to use it. Let's skip the philosophy this time and just get to the practical bits for those who have already decided they would like to know more about the actual mechanics of the NLE calendar and may want to try incorporating its use into their lives in some manner.

The calendar tracks lunar phases within the solar year. Each cycle is tracked from the darkest point in that cycle. Therefore the beginning (and ending) of a solar year is the Winter Solstice. The darkest point of a lunar cycle is the New Moon. That darkest point in the cycle is the zero point and we begin counting up from there.

To avoid confusion that can sometimes arise from differences in time zones we will simply use Eastern Standard Time as the default, which is the time zone of the area in which the Mayan people who designed the Long Count calendar lived and made their astronomical observations. The NLE calendar began when the Mayan Long Count calendar ended, which was on December 21st, 2012 C.E. of the mainstream Gregorian calendar. That was the beginning of Year Zero of the New Luciferian Era.

In the NLE we track Lunations instead of months. Days begin at 0 on the New Moon and increment from there until getting reset to zero again on the next New Moon. We use midnight as a convenient and practical stand-in for the darkest point of the daily solar-terrestrial cycle of 24 hours, and we can use military time which begins with 00:00:00 and ends with 23:59:59.

Since the Winter Solstice rarely occurs on the same day as the New Moon, most years the first Lunation of the year (Lunation 0) will already be in progress. This is the only tricky part of the calendar, so let's get into an example for the transition between Year 8 and Year 9 NLE. Below is a page from a basic calendar I'm creating which I will be releasing as a free download when it's ready:

The final Lunation of Year 8 NLE occurs on the Gregorian date of December 4th, 2021 CE. We would write this as 8-12-0 NLE for Year 8, Lunation 12, Day 0.

The final day of Year 8 occurs on Dec. 20th and we write it as 8-12-16 NLE. Day 17 of that same Lunation takes place on the beginning of Year 9 NLE, so we will now refer to it as Lunation 0 of Year 9 but we still recognize that it is day 17 of the lunar cycle so we write it as 9-0-17 NLE.

If you can understand that part, the rest of the calendar is easy. If at any point you do happen to make an error or miscalculation you will have an opportunity to resynchronize back up with each New Moon, reducing the potential impact of such errors. While making this calendar I accidentally duplicated day 14 and so each date was off by a day for the rest of the Lunation, but the next Lunation still began on the New Moon. A friend pointed out the error and I have corrected it, but had it gone unnoticed the error would have been confined to a roughly two week section of the calendar.
