Welcome To:
Villajoyosa or La Villajoiosa is the town where I'm currently living here in Spain. La Villajoiosa literally means "Joyful town". Villajoiosa is located in the Province of Alicante, Valencian Community, Spain, by the Mediterranean Sea. There are historical and modern sites of Villajoiosa. The first picture above shows the modern part of the town and the old town is located behind the small mountain in the right side. The town is also home to Spain's oldest chocolate company and museum, Valor .
In this post, I'm going to unveil one of the interesting historical sites of the town situated in a mountain which is my favorite hiking ground, The Torre El Aguilo or Tower of Aguilo.
The Torre El Aguilo view from our apartment with a nice paths and trail from the ground of the mountain. A hiker r will surely enjoy! From the ground of the mountain, it takes 25 to 30 minutes of hiking before reaching the top.
Some bench and views of Alicante's Mediterranean coastline view halfway to the top of the hill.
Taking a break to catch my breath, drink some water and a quick pose! 😀
And there it is!
In the top of the mountain, visitors can see the Tossal De La Cala, the whole Costa Blanca Coastline from Alicante To Calpe.
According to this history information chart, the tower was built from limestones which was available in the tower's area back in the 16th century under the rule of Felipe II.
The small island in the middle of the sea is called Benidorm Island.
One of the clearest beaches below the mountain is the Playa Nudista or Nude beach. (Thanks to husband for my perfect mermaiding photo) ;-)
Meanwhile, in the other side of the mountain, 20 minutes hiking from the Aguilo is the Casa Cartel De Carabineros or Abandoned Riffleman's barracks.
On our first hiking here back on April, I thought this abandoned building is a restaurant before because it has several corners and there is a smaller separate building next to it that looks like a kitchen until me and my husband saw the sign "Between the years of 1824 and 1940, the riflemen (carabineros) guarded the coastline and were incharge of customs. Their main task was to prevent smuggling..." and the rest is history.
Every corner of the abandoned barracks is filled with graffiti.
Lots of cactus grown overtime and trees in the surrounding that create shades and paths to the top of the hill.
And 10 minutes walk from the abandoned barracks is an abandoned villa.
These abandoned place is blessed with a beautiful landscape of sunset and Mediterranean ocean view and I call it a beautiful mess.
How To Get There
There are free amazing things to do in this town and one of them is exploring this mountain with it's majestic scenery. If you happen to be in Alicante Spain, It only takes 37 minutes ride to Villajoiosa or through the public transpo (ALSA).
And this is the whole landscape picture of La Villajoiosa modern town and the mountain taken from Gran Hotel Bali's 13th floor view point.
That's all for today Steemian!
Hope you enjoy the VIEWtiful scenery from one of the joyful town's historical sites! ❤️
