Every NFL fan has got their own ideas about what attributes are most important for a good quarterback to have. Do you value football IQ over athleticism? Pocket passing or mobility? Game manager or gunslinger? A great quarterback probably needs to pretty good in all of those areas. I thought it would be fun to share my list of the NFL's top forty-two quarterbacks.
Sports media nowadays is purely out for profit and clicks. It's ridiculous. NFL analysts are so skewed by what gets them the most clicks and the most money that their opinions end up sounding completely absurd.
I'm not about to claim that my rankings are more accurate than other people's. Ranking quarterbacks is not exactly rocket science and there are only so players to pick from anyway. But I will try my best to not be influenced by mainstream media.
I have my complete list already done and I will be spreading out my list throughout a series of posts. I used my own criteria and my own opinions to create my list.
#10 - Deshaun Watson - Houston Texans
Deshaun Watson is a very good quarterback, he can be scary good at times. There is not anything he can't do on the field as a quarterback. When he first came into the league I thought he was going to take the league by storm and just dominate.
While I am not sure if he will make the Texans the next great dynasty, he is still one of the best quarterbacks in the league and he can definitely become a champion. He can be slightly and surprisingly inconsistent at times, but at the same time his head coach is Bill O'Brien, has proven to make a lot of silly decisions as a coach. Letting go of DeAndre Hopkins is highly stupid in my opinion. Hopkins is a killer.
Deshaun Watson is just a really solid QB and I don't have too many complaints. Like I said he can be inconsistent and he sometimes enjoys and attempts being the hero too much. But when his only good and consistently healthy option is DeAndre Hopkins, sometimes I guess you gotta play hero ball sometimes.
Hopkins will likely have a very solid career. He reminds me of Donovan McNabb but perhaps more mobile. McNabb may have been a better passer too, but there are similarities in their game.
The Texans should be in good shape for awhile, I think they found a good QB for their franchise and future.
Stinks as a Titans fan LOL. Maybe O'Brien will pull an 'O'Brien' and trade Watson for a pack of granola bars, like he basically did with DeAndre Hopkins.
#9 - Matt Ryan - Atlanta Falcons
I am a fan of Matt Ryan. I definitely and un-shamefully take past accomplishments and track records into account when it comes to these rankings. You play to win the game and get touchdowns. Matt Ryan has proven he is very much capable of doing both in his career.
He has a stellar winning record in his career, a stellar TD to INT ratio, he has only missed starting three games in his entire career 12 year career, he's got an MVP, he's got Pro Bowls.
I have always seen Matt Ryan in an elite category. I think he is one of the most over-looked QB talents in recent memory. I would probably have him higher on this list if it wasn't for the last two underwhelming seasons.
Matt Ryan is simply one of the best quarterbacks in the league. Since 2008 the guy has just put up numbers and dubs. I think anyone would be happy to have Ryan as their QB.
I compare him to Tom Brady and Peyton Manning in his style. Not saying he is quite as great as those guys, but he isn't as far off from those dudes as you think. He definitely has their playing style though.
