Every NFL fan has got their own ideas about what attributes are most important for a good quarterback to have. Do you value football IQ over athleticism? Pocket passing or mobility? Game manager or gunslinger? A great quarterback probably needs to pretty good in all of those areas. I thought it would be fun to share my list of the NFL's top forty-two quarterbacks.
Sports media nowadays is purely out for profit and clicks. It's ridiculous. NFL analysts are so skewed by what gets them the most clicks and the most money that their opinions end up sounding completely absurd.
I'm not about to claim that my rankings are more accurate than other people's. Ranking quarterbacks is not exactly rocket science and there are only so players to pick from anyway. But I will try my best to not be influenced by mainstream media.
I have my complete list already done and I will be spreading out my list throughout a series of posts. I used my own criteria and my own opinions to create my list.
#14 - Cam Newton - New England Patriots
Cam Newton is probably overrated in a lot of people's eyes. Not in mine. The guy is a more than capable quarterback. He led his team to a Super Bowl and was an MVP not that long ago. With the right talent and coaching around him, and if he's healthy he is very scary.
Cam Newton is a big, strong, athletic quarterback that honestly is probably better than Lamar Jackson. The only reason Cam is at 14, and I have Lamar higher (stay tuned) is because of recent history. In more recent years, Lamar has been better. But I won't be surprised if Cam bounces back and reminds everyone how good he is.
In New England, Cam has got good coaching. You know that Bill Belichick always has got good talent up his sleeve even if it's a random guy nobody has heard of. Also Cam is healthy, and motivated since the Panthers lost faith in him.
When I combine his entire body of work and him likely having a bounce back season coming up, I think that Cam is a strong #14 NFL quarterback.
#13 - Matthew Stafford - Detroit Lions
I have always appreciated Matthew Stafford's game. He reminds me of a better version of Jay Cutler. Very comparable arm strength to Cutler. Stafford probably has better accuracy, athleticism, IQ and will to win. But the style of play is kinda similar.
I really appreciate Stafford I really think he's underrated. This is another example of a player being pretty good, but the team and organization kind of sucking. The Lions have never been good, ya know? Stafford actually helps them be respectable, and some years playoff worthy.
If you think about it, how many QB's would you take over Stafford? Not that many if we're being honest.
Imagine what Bill Belichick and the Patriots would do with this guy.
The guy puts up 4,000 yard seasons year after year and nobody really notices. He even threw for 5,000 yards once. He actually has more winning seasons as a starter than you would think.
The guy never even has a proper running back, and he's still putting up numbers.
I don't know the future of his career, it's hard to imagine him leading the Lions to the promised land, but if he ever finds a new team with decent coaching and decent talent, LOOK OUT!!
What do you think of my rankings and reasons behind them?
Hive on!
