Every NFL fan has got their own ideas about what attributes are most important for a good quarterback to have. Do you value football IQ over athleticism? Pocket passing or mobility? Game manager or gunslinger? A great quarterback probably needs to pretty good in all of those areas. I thought it would be fun to share my list of the NFL's top forty-two quarterbacks.
Sports media nowadays is purely out for profit and clicks. It's ridiculous. NFL analysts are so skewed by what gets them the most clicks and the most money that their opinions end up sounding completely absurd.
I'm not about to claim that my rankings are more accurate than other people's. Ranking quarterbacks is not exactly rocket science and there are only so players to pick from anyway. But I will try my best to not be influenced by mainstream media.
I have my complete list already done and I will be spreading out my list throughout a series of posts. I used my own criteria and my own opinions to create my list.
#16 - Dak Prescott - Dallas Cowboys
Dak is a very very solid professional quarterback in the NFL. I like his effort and competitiveness and will to win. He is a focused guy. He has very good athleticism when it comes to pocket presence and mobility. He is not a scrambler but he does kinda remind me of Ben Roethlisberger. He has a strong football playing body. His arm talent overall is pretty average but he does make the most of it especially with his effort, IQ and good feet.
I struggle to see the whole top ten talk though when it comes to him. Nothing really makes my jaw drop when he plays. He is very good, but there is very much the ridiculous Dallas Cowboy effect when it comes to him. Any decent QB on the Dallas Cowboys is going to be hyped.
But yeah Dak is definitely solid. He has had some decent results in his career that I must respect. Two playoff appearances and a playoff win is respectable, and he is still a young guy. Three winning seasons is nothing to shrug at.
As much as the Cowboys annoy me, I have nothing really that bad to say about Dak. He is like a shade above average overall. You can definitely win with this guy no question about it. I'm intrigued to see what new coaching can do for him and that team.
Having an established backup QB behind him and a new coach could perhaps really push Dak to a new level. This is a big year for Dak! Hopefully for his own career he has his best year yet. Unless it's against the Titans HA!
#15 - Derek Carr - Las Vegas Raiders
People give Derek Carr way too much crap in my opinion. This dude was nearly an MVP a couple of years ago. People really forget how scary that 2016-2017 Raiders team was. If Carr hadn't gotten injured, that team would have made a seriously deep run I believe.
Since that year the results definitely haven't been there, sure. But he has dealt with injuries, and many coaching and roster changes. Now he's dealing with the team moving to a new city.
Jon Gruden, and Antonio Brown comes to mind most recently. They have been a huge distraction for that team in my opinion. I know Antonio is gone but still. Amari Cooper, Michael Crabtree, Khalil Mack all left too.
Plus, last year that team kinda stunk, but Carr kept them respectable-ish in my opinion.
To be totally honest I think the Raiders are wasting Carr's talent and career. I keep hearing things like the Raiders and even Gruden not liking him very much. Well, I know a lot of teams would want Carr. The Raiders could really regret losing that guy if they do decide to let him leave. I won't be surprised if Carr succeeds on another better run team.
The Raiders have been a mess for years. Carr should want to leave that team in my opinion.
Since the Titans found success with having two quality QBs last year, I think that ultimately it is healthy and pretty wise that the Raiders signed Marcus Mariota as a backup. Marcus is a chill dude and a quality player. He will be good for competition and teamwork and team improvement overall.
Derek Carr is a good QB, but the Raiders aren't that good of a franchise most of the time.
What do you think of my rankings and reasons behind them?
Hive on!
