This might be my best drawing that I made so far after learning how to draw portrait after a year.
Let me share my 4th commision drawing of this little cute baby. Before doing it, I was hesistant and I doubt myself if I can do it.
Staring at her photo, she was wearing a ribbon on her head that has a lot of details which freak me out in the first place. Aside from that, her sweater was white and I haven't tried to draw something like this before, especially on this kind of color.
I tried to look for any tutorials for white clothes but I don't see what I was exactly been searching for. So this drawing of mine would be my first on shading and trying to copy atleast 80 percent of my reference. Here's how I did:
Art Materials
8.5 x 11 inches Vellum Board
2H, HB, 6B and 8B Pencil
Mechanical Pencil
Kneaded and Ordinary Eraser
Charcoal Powder
Makeup brushes
Ordinary pencil for sketching the outline
Ruler for grid
- Using an ordinary pencil to make an outline for the whole face shape. Then followed towards sketching and shading the left eye. I brushed some charcoal powder on eyebrows then I draw the eyebrow hair strands using mechanical pencil.
- I draw the nose very lightly considering not to put more pressure on the paper. This kinda tricky and hard for me especially on shadowed area. I add more charcoal powder into it but repeating it just one step at a time. I also used mechanical pencil in some part to add texture.
- Using small brush I add color to the lips. I used 8B pencil for the shadow of the lips. A small brush helps me a lot to glide smoothly on small area like this. Similar to other steps, a fluffy brush was best on spreading the charcoal powder on skintone.
- I proceed to the right side of the hair and ear. Just blending charcoal powder for hair and mechanical pencil with 6B pencil. I use charcoal powder for the ribbon.
- Texture a bit part with mechanical pencil, 6B for darker part. Add more charcoal powder on shadowed area. Same process on hair for black color.
- For the sweater, I add first layer of charcoal powder to the design logo. Then I add 8B shading criss cross style and add one more layer of charcoal powder. I also use 2H pencil for texture of the sweater.
Here is the final look:
Hope you could check it out! Thanks im advance:)
Ps. Sorry for bad lighting, this is my struggle when taking photos on my drawing.
