The time has come for me to plant my seed today. The weather looks perfectly fine. I looked for some ground soil. Thanks for the rain last night which help me to dig it.
One of the most important things to consider in planting was the soil. Many gardening experts suggested to use animals waste, vegetable peels, egg shells, rice hull and coco peat. Never used that before but all I have right now is rice hull.
Here's how I did:
I digged out these soil and segregate big stones and dirt. Using this little plastic net I strain it little by little.
I use an old caserole as my vessel. I add some rice hull and sand. I heard that putting a little sand into soil can help to drain the water faster.
Having a thick clay like soil like this got me trouble on my previous planting session. My red chilis eventually dies, shorter than I expected. It is because I don't put more holes where I planted it. It is hard to drained out excess water trapped at the bottom. Aside from that I used a clay type of soil that's why overtime it became hard soil.
I combine rice hull, dried grass, wood charcoal shavings, and sand. I mixed it and set aside. I've missed to add animal poop 'cause I don't see any available at my location. I will just add dried vegetable peels and fruits as soon as it is needed.
I chose 2 microwaveable container for my seed starting vessel. I grab holes at the bottom to ensure that the water will drain perfectly. Sizes are 500 ml and 750 ml.
I sprinkle the seeds into their container and cover it with enough soil needed.
Based on the packaging for each seeds, the germination of wheat grass will take from 2-3 days.
Lettuce germination take longer than I expected from 3-10 days. But I will just check them everyday so I can see them how will they sprout their first leaf.
I hope and wait until it completes the germination period. I'd still have 2 seeds left here and I have more time to gathered good quality soil and compost to have a healthy and organic vegetables right at my own house. I'll be back for an update maybe after few days or which one will the first to show some leaf.
