Hey y'all,
Happy Open Mic. I didn't have an original song to match this week's "Stop and Smell the Roses" theme. That said, I'd written the chorus for a new song a few days ago and thought it might be fun to finish it right away and make a video.
Here in Nashville we've got some extreme weather as the tropical depression passes through after hitting the gulf. We've been listening to reports and warning sirens and heading up and down from the basement this afternoon and it's sort of interfered with my other plans for the day. This was a fun distraction.
Enjoy!
The Present Is A Gift
The future sits there gleaming
in the corner of your eye
The past’s a burden
that you cannot lift
Today’s a day that all tomorrows
pass right by
But the present
is a gift
The morning it is breaking
like sunny golden egg
C’mon baby open up your eyes
The flowers raise their heads
do not bend and do not beg
They dig down deep to
stretch into the skies
The rainclouds they are clearing
in the whiskey morning light
C’mon baby lift up your sleepy head
That mourning dove you’re hearing
sings a song of sweet delight
but neither for the living nor the dead
The day comes for the darkness
and the dark is scared away
C’mon baby we’re not afraid no more
We’re rushing with the river
to swim that secret sea
where never meets forever at the shore
