Last of us was the reason I bought my first PlayStation. It was around the time Xbox One was the original announced, and my Xbox 360 got the red ring of death. Buying an Xbox was just automatic. But then Microsoft announced their plans for the Xbox One and I was immediately turned off. They said you were unable to sell your games, rent games, had to have an always-on connection to the Internet or you would be disabled and a few other anti-consumer ideas. They quickly back peddled but I started looking at their competition and I came across the game Last of Us.
The reviews for Last of Us were amazing and I had to play it. I picked up a used PlayStation 3 pretty cheap and got Last of us.
Last of Us is yet another zombie apocalypse game, but the story and gameplay were amazing. It was a first-person shooter with very few cutscenes but played like a 16-hour movie you were part of. The story and world were fascinating and far better than any other game I played.
At the time, the graphics were amazing for the PlayStation 3 generation.
You play as Joel, and most of the game you are protecting Ellie, the main character in the game and the focus on Last of Us II. The first half of the game is intense, the last half is visceral.
Last of Us II focuses mostly on Ellie, I am not sure how much of a role Joel will play but I heard he is in the game. A new trailer for Last of Us II has been released, and the game is planned for the end of 2018 or early 2019 timeframe.
Last of Us was later remastered for the PS4 and has 4K, 60 fps, and HDR on the PS4 Pro.
