Lately, I’ve been praying before I go to sleep, looking for answers to my “I don’t know” thoughts—and I got an answer. Maybe it was just my mind, or maybe, hopefully, it was an all-powerful God that responded. I'm not a religious person (more on that later), but I have experienced what felt like miracles in real life.
One example: When I was a kid, maybe 8 or 9—or even younger—I was at a park with my dad and younger brother. It was starting to look stormy all around. We had been introduced to religion earlier that week and learned basic things taught to children, like what faith is and how to pray. Phrases like, “With enough faith, you can move mountains.” We believed in that 100%.
When we saw those storm clouds coming, we put our little hands together and prayed for blue skies so we could keep playing. My dad, who had introduced us to the idea of faith, thought to himself, “That’s not going to work,” because—like any logical person—he assumed if it’s going to rain, it’s going to rain. But we were able to keep playing under clear skies. I remember walking home completely dry, even though clouds surrounded us on all sides. It stayed clear above us the entire walk home.
It was a long time ago, and maybe I’m misremembering, but my dad—the adult at the time—remembers it too. He’s always used that story as proof that God exists. There aren’t any photos of it, or if there were, I can't find them. I know, “how coincidental,” but you're going to have to trust me on this one.
I'm not trying to convince anyone that it was real or that God did that so two little kids could play a bit longer. But what I do know is that we got home dry, and then one of the worst storms I’ve ever experienced hit. There were floods, lightning, and water coming in through every window of our apartment—and we lived on the fourth floor of a city building. It was a crazy moment for us as kids, and it stuck with me as one of my personal "proofs" of God.
Lately, I’ve been struggling with the question of what if—as you can probably tell from my latest posts. I’ve prayed many times, and I’ve realized that the answers I get don’t come in words like a conversation. They come as ideas—interruptions in the flow of my thoughts—as I’m forming sentences in my head. I don’t even need to say them out loud. It’s a strange thing. Maybe it's just my mind, or maybe it's something divine. There's no way to really know.
They say God won’t give you solid proof, but He’ll leave enough of a gap for faith to fill in.
Tonight, as I was falling asleep, I was praying for answers. And I felt an idea interrupt my thoughts. It wasn’t words—it was a feeling. It felt like it was telling me that it doesn’t matter what religion I belong to. What matters is that I believe in a greater good—an all-powerful good that exists and can help.
I’ve talked to a lot of people about God. Many say, “If there was a God, why would He let people die, get sick, be tortured, or live through horrible conditions?” Certain religious people often answer, “This is all according to God's plan.” Then there are memes, like “God’s to-do list: Create universe, give John Doe cancer.” It’s dark humor, but it reflects how people really feel—like God owes them an explanation.
I don’t speak for God in any way, but I think of it like this: we’re to God as ants are to us. We walk around, unaware that we might be crushing hundreds of them. If ants prayed, asking why that happens, would it change anything? Maybe it’s not about whether we understand—it’s just part of something bigger. I don't think God does anything without being aware of the consequences, but I do think people feel like ants—unable to understand the reasons behind what happens.
I don’t know why we’re here, living on this planet flying through space, but we are. I feel like life is a test. We all go through—or are in—rough patches and wonder, “Why me?” We look at celebrities and think, “Damn, they’re lucky.” They have all the money and fame but still have things to complain about.
But in the end, whether you believe you’ll rot in the ground and feed plants and soil, or that there’s an afterlife with God—or even 72 virgins—it doesn’t really matter. One of the biggest questions in philosophy is, “What is the meaning of life?” People have tried to answer it in thousands of ways. I answered it for myself years ago and still believe it today: the meaning of life is love.
It might sound cliché, but it’s the answer that fits me. And now I ask myself: What really is love? It’s not just a word. We all know what it feels like—to a certain degree, at least.
When I started writing this, I wanted to talk about that answer I got while praying. The message wasn’t in words—it was a feeling. A feeling that there is something greater out there. And that as long as I do what I feel is good, I’m at peace with myself—and with God.
That could be interpreted a million ways. I don’t specify which God, because I believe there’s only one. And if someone prays at a statue with full faith in their heart—not because of the statue, but with sincere intent, trying to be good—they’re doing the right thing.
As I said, I’m not a religious person—at least not in the traditional sense. I see being “religious” as doing something every day at a specific time in the same way. If you wake up at 6 a.m. every day and eat breakfast at 7 a.m. without fail and so on, that’s being religious about it. Many faiths have followers who do specific things daily or yearly—religiously. So the “R-word” shows up a lot here, lol.
There’s a part of me that believes we should respect this higher power. To disrespect such a being would not be wise. But people do, and they often don’t see the consequences immediately. There’s no proof of heaven or hell—just as there’s no proof that they don’t exist. That gap is where faith comes in. Some might say this is no better than superstition, and maybe I am a little “stitious.”
As I write this, I talk to people around me and realize more things I want to add. We are limited by our language. Just as old people and young people can misunderstand each other because words don’t always mean the same things anymore, I believe people argue in vain over what one version of the Bible says versus another. The Bible—or any scripture, if it truly came from an all-powerful being—can’t be perfectly put into words. Even if you had an image worth more than a thousand words, it still couldn’t fully convey an idea. Two people could watch the same movie and walk away with similar—but never identical—understandings.
When I pray, I feel an idea responding in my mind in my own language. If someone else had the same idea enter their mind the same way, they might still interpret it differently.
I think that if I had grown up in a completely different environment—I'm talking about me, though, a literal genetic clone—I would still, at some point in life, think about this kind of stuff. Maybe I wouldn't get there the same way, but I’d probably still have the same way of going through life.
Again, I’ll reiterate—I’m not trying to make anybody believe in God. But I am interested in hearing thoughts from anyone who actually takes the time to read my post.
If you’re an atheist or agnostic, I challenge you to do something like praying. Think in your mind—or out loud—about things you want answered, and wait. Expect an answer to come. Think through the problem with faith that an answer will come. Assume there's a possibility that something greater is out there that wants to be accepted or acknowledged. Try to expect an answer with no doubt in your mind. If you don’t want to, that’s your choice—but I’d love to hear what happens. Whether nothing happens, or whether you feel one of these answers—and how you interpret it. Maybe you’ll feel it was something you resolved on your own, or maybe you’ll feel like it came out of thin air.
Anyway, this wasn’t meant to be a super long post, but it was something I found really interesting to write about—more so than my last post. I feel like I’m forming a clearer identity through writing, and I love that. It motivates me to write more and more.

Últimamente he estado rezando antes de dormir, buscando respuestas a mis pensamientos de “no sé” —y obtuve una respuesta. Tal vez solo fue mi mente, o tal vez, con suerte, fue un Dios todopoderoso quien respondió. No soy una persona religiosa (hablaré más de eso luego), pero he experimentado lo que sentí como milagros en la vida real.
Un ejemplo: cuando era niño, quizás tenía 8 o 9 años —o incluso menos—, estaba en un parque con mi papá y mi hermano menor. Todo alrededor empezaba a verse tormentoso. Nos habían presentado la religión esa misma semana y aprendimos cosas básicas que se les enseñan a los niños, como qué es la fe y cómo orar. Frases como: “Con suficiente fe puedes mover montañas.” Nosotros lo creíamos al 100%.
Cuando vimos que se acercaban las nubes de tormenta, juntamos nuestras pequeñas manos y rezamos por un cielo azul para poder seguir jugando. Mi papá, que fue quien nos introdujo a la idea de la fe, pensó para sí mismo: “Eso no va a funcionar,” porque—como cualquier persona lógica—asumía que si va a llover, va a llover. Pero pudimos seguir jugando bajo un cielo despejado. Recuerdo caminar de regreso a casa completamente seco, a pesar de que las nubes nos rodeaban por todos lados. El cielo se mantuvo despejado sobre nosotros durante toda la caminata de regreso.
Fue hace mucho tiempo, y tal vez mi memoria me falle, pero mi papá —el adulto en ese momento— también lo recuerda. Siempre uso esa historia como prueba de que Dios existe. No hay fotos de ese día, o si las hubo, no las puedo encontrar. Ya sé, “qué coincidencia,” pero tendrás que confiar en mí en esta.
No estoy tratando de convencer a nadie de que fue real o de que Dios hizo eso solo para que dos niños pequeños pudieran jugar un rato más. Pero lo que sí sé es que llegamos a casa secos, y después cayó una de las peores tormentas que he vivido. Hubo inundaciones, relámpagos y el agua entraba por todas las ventanas de nuestro departamento —y vivíamos en el cuarto piso de un edificio en la ciudad. Fue un momento muy intenso para nosotros como niños, y se me quedó grabado como una de mis “pruebas” personales de Dios.
Últimamente he estado luchando con la pregunta del ¿y si...? —como probablemente se nota en mis publicaciones más recientes. He rezado muchas veces, y me he dado cuenta de que las respuestas no llegan en forma de palabras como en una conversación. Vienen como ideas —interrupciones en el flujo de mis pensamientos— mientras formulo frases en mi cabeza. Ni siquiera tengo que decirlas en voz alta. Es algo extraño. Tal vez solo sea mi mente, o tal vez sea algo divino. Realmente no hay manera de saberlo con certeza.
Dicen que Dios no te dará una prueba sólida, pero dejará suficiente espacio para que la fe lo llene.
Esta noche, mientras me quedaba dormido, estaba rezando por respuestas. Y sentí que una idea interrumpió mis pensamientos. No eran palabras—era un sentimiento. Sentí como si me dijera que no importa a qué religión pertenezca. Lo que importa es que crea en un bien superior—un bien todopoderoso que existe y puede ayudar.
He hablado con muchas personas sobre Dios. Muchos dicen: “Si existiera un Dios, ¿por qué permitiría que la gente muera, se enferme, sea torturada o viva en condiciones horribles?” Algunos religiosos suelen responder: “Todo está en el plan de Dios.” Y luego están los memes, como “Lista de tareas de Dios: Crear el universo, darle cáncer a Juan Pérez.” Es humor oscuro, pero refleja lo que muchos realmente sienten: como si Dios les debiera una explicación.
No hablo en nombre de Dios de ninguna manera, pero lo veo así: nosotros somos para Dios lo que las hormigas son para nosotros. Caminamos sin darnos cuenta de que podríamos estar aplastando a cientos de ellas. Si las hormigas rezaran, preguntando por qué pasa eso, ¿cambiaría algo? Tal vez no se trata de entender—tal vez es solo parte de algo más grande. No creo que Dios haga cosas sin saber sus consecuencias, pero sí creo que las personas se sienten como hormigas—incapaces de comprender por qué suceden ciertas cosas.
No sé por qué estamos aquí, viviendo en este planeta que viaja por el espacio, pero aquí estamos. Siento que la vida es una prueba. Todos pasamos —o estamos pasando— por momentos difíciles y nos preguntamos, “¿Por qué yo?” Vemos a los famosos y pensamos, “Qué suerte tienen.” Igualmente tienen todo el dinero y la fama, pero aún así se quejan de cosas.
Pero al final, ya sea que creas que vas a pudrirte en la tierra y alimentar las plantas, o que hay una vida después de la muerte con Dios —o incluso 72 vírgenes— no importa tanto. Una de las preguntas más grandes de la filosofía es: “¿Cuál es el sentido de la vida?” Mucha gente ha tratado de responderla de mil maneras. Yo respondí esa pregunta para mí mismo hace años, y todavía creo en esa respuesta: el sentido de la vida es el amor.
Puede sonar cliché, pero es la respuesta que más encaja conmigo. Y ahora me pregunto: ¿Qué es realmente el amor? No es solo una palabra. Todos sabemos cómo se siente—al menos hasta cierto punto.
Cuando empecé a escribir esto, quería hablar sobre esa respuesta que recibí mientras rezaba. El mensaje no fue en palabras—fue un sentimiento. Un sentimiento de que hay algo más grande allá afuera. Y que mientras yo haga lo que considero bueno, estaré en paz conmigo mismo—y con Dios.
Eso se puede interpretar de mil maneras. No especifico cuál Dios, porque creo que solo hay uno. Y si alguien reza frente a una estatua con fe completa en su corazón—no por la estatua, sino con intención sincera, tratando de ser bueno—está haciendo lo correcto.
Como dije, no soy una persona religiosa—al menos no en el sentido tradicional. Veo lo “religioso” como hacer algo todos los días, a la misma hora y de la misma manera. Si te levantas todos los días a las 6 a.m. y desayunas a las 7 a.m. sin fallar, y así sucesivamente, eso es ser religioso con algo. Muchas religiones tienen fieles que hacen cosas específicas todos los días o cada año—religiosamente. Así que la “palabra con R” aparece mucho aquí, jaja.
Hay una parte de mí que cree que debemos respetar a ese poder superior. Faltarle el respeto a un ser así no sería inteligente. Pero la gente lo hace, y muchas veces no ve las consecuencias de inmediato. No hay pruebas del cielo o del infierno—como tampoco hay pruebas de que no existan. Ese espacio es el que la fe debe llenar. Algunos dirán que no es diferente a la superstición, y tal vez yo sea un poco supersticioso.
Mientras escribo esto, hablo con personas a mi alrededor y me doy cuenta de más cosas que quiero agregar. Estamos limitados por nuestro lenguaje. Así como los jóvenes y los mayores pueden no entenderse porque las palabras cambian de significado, creo que las personas discuten en vano sobre qué dice una versión de la Biblia u otra. La Biblia—o cualquier escritura, si realmente proviene de un ser todopoderoso—no puede ser perfectamente expresada en palabras. Incluso si tuvieras una imagen que valiera más que mil palabras, aún no podría transmitir completamente una idea. Dos personas pueden ver la misma película y terminar con ideas similares, pero nunca exactamente iguales.
Cuando rezo, siento una idea respondiéndome en mi mente, en mi propio lenguaje. Si alguien más tuviera la misma idea entrando en su mente de la misma manera, probablemente la interpretaría de forma distinta.
Creo que si hubiera crecido en un entorno completamente diferente—hablo de mí, de un clon genético literal—igual, en algún punto de mi vida, pensaría en este tipo de cosas. Tal vez no llegaría de la misma forma, pero probablemente seguiría viendo la vida de la misma manera.
Una vez más, lo reitero—no estoy tratando de hacer que nadie crea en Dios. Pero sí me interesa escuchar pensamientos de quienes realmente se tomen el tiempo de leer mi publicación.
Si eres ateo o agnóstico, te desafío a hacer algo parecido a rezar. Piensa en tu mente—o en voz alta—sobre cosas que quieras entender, y espera. Espera una respuesta. Reflexiona sobre el problema con fe en que llegará una respuesta. Supón que hay una posibilidad de que exista algo más grande allá afuera, algo que quiera ser aceptado o reconocido. Intenta esperar una respuesta sin duda en tu mente. Si no quieres hacerlo, es tu decisión—pero me encantaría saber qué pasa. Ya sea que no sientas nada, o que sientas una de estas “respuestas”, y cómo la interpretaste. Tal vez sientas que lo resolviste por tu cuenta, o tal vez parezca que llegó de la nada.
En fin, esta publicación no estaba pensada para ser tan larga, pero fue algo que encontré realmente interesante de escribir—más que mi última publicación. Siento que estoy formando una identidad más clara a través de la escritura, y eso me encanta. Me motiva a seguir escribiendo cada vez más.
