Welcome to Oregon Coast Points of Interest, part II, where we begin with a non-coastal point of interest 🤣
The Oregon Vortex
I have not been here yet, but this one is high on my list too. It's located in Gold Hill, which is just north of Medford.
From The Oregon Vortex website:
The Oregon Vortex is a glimpse of a strange world where the improbable is the commonplace and everyday physical facts are reversed. It is an area of naturally occurring visual and perceptual phenomena, which can be captured on film. No matter your education or profession you will find a challenge to all your accepted theories.
...and now back to our regularly scheduled program...
The following are places I have visited and highly recommend, enjoy :)
Cape Perpetua Scenic Area
One word, AWESOME!
The Cape Perpetua Scenic Area is home to Thor's Well, one of the Wonders of Oregon and one of the most visited spots in the state. The area also boasts a geologic feature called the Devils Churn, a small inlet in the basalt shoreline made by thousands of years of crashing waves. As the tide comes in the water is forced into the churn and can blast hundreds of feet in the air.
Newport
Newport is home to Yaquina Bay State Park and the tallest lighthouse in Oregon, the Yaquina Head Lighthouse, built in 1871.
The lighthouse is located in the Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area which has some great tidepools @summertooth/oregon-coast-giant-green-sea-anemone
Devils Punchbowl
About 8 miles north of Newport one will find another killer geologic feature know as the devils punchbowl
, a wave-carved coastal cave where the roof collapsed long ago. It does fill with water when the tide comes in as well!
Lincoln City
There is some great hiking up Cascade Head, a nature preserve that has some cool wildlife and awesome ocean views from atop the trails.
Crabbing & clamming in Siletz Bay is also something one can do :)
Pacific City
Home to Pelican Brewing and the entrance to Three Capes Scenic Drive, which sounds like something @vgholdingsllc would enjoy getting lost in ;)
The route will take you past some of the most striking scenery in the area, including the three capes of Cape Meares, Cape Lookout, and Cape Kiwanda.
