Me and my husband has done a lot of camping in the last 7 years . But this was special because we had our daughter(less than 2 year old) with us.
We camped one night at Death Valley on a road trip to Las Vegas from San Francisco December 2015. We had a couple friends with us. We celebrated that New year (2016) at Vegas.
We started driving early morning to reach at Death Valley National park before dark. It was 480 miles (8 hours) long trip from our home. The park has multiple campgrounds to choose from. We chose Panamint Valley on the western edge of Death Valley National Park as they have a restaurant there with nice restrooms very close to the campground. That was the only restaurant in the beautiful Panamint Valley and its atleast an hour from any other restaurant or campground.
Just after reaching we put up the tents and had dinner at the restaurant. Considering the remote location it was delicious at a high but fair price.
Death Valley weather is famous as the hottest place on earth. But in the night, its a differet story. It was freezing cold. We built a campfire and wore jackets. While we all adults were freezing , kiara seems perfectly fine in her sweater. I was a little worried that she is not wearing a jacket . But it's also true that children often really don't feel cold even when their parents do. They are naturally so active that their bodies are generating enough heat to keep them feeling warm, even if they arent. She is very active and was enjoying the campfire by collecting sticks and throwing them in the fire. We had to supervise her exclusively to keep her in a safe distance from the fire.
I must say that the starry sky view at Death Valley is amazing. You can just look up and see countless amounts of stars. It is the third largest international dark sky park. In the winter and spring seasons, park offer night sky programs. The view itself is worth spending a night there.
We brought pillows and blankets along with the sleeping bags>quote for extra comfort. And Kiara brought her mickey mouse as well. Its a good idea to bring a familiar toy for the kids to hold onto at night. It can be difficult to get sleep in a new place.
Morning in the park was so pleasant and chilly. We had breakfast and took some pictures in front of our tents. Then we started packing and headed to Las Vegas for the New Year celebration.
We stopped at the Mesquite Sand Dunes on the way.
We love our little adventures with our daughter. Especially if its something that allow us spend quality time together.Have you ever done camping ? I would love to hear your experiences
Thank you for reading!
