The title above looks scientific but i'm going to argue from a philosophical standpoint by asking us some questions.
I have tried to ask myself what makes me 'me' even after going through series of change from physical look, height to cells.
Cells are always created and destroyed in the human body. About 300 million cells die every minute in our bodies. Source
I started philosophizing when i learnt these cells die and are replaced by new cells which in turn die to give room for new cells and this happens in circles every day.
The cell is the basic structural, functional, and biological unit of all known living organisms. A cell is the smallest unit of life. Source
Cells are regarded as the life force of human beings, the building blocks of life.
If these cells die on a daily basis and got replaced, does it mean i am not always myself every day?
Let's give it some gaps and assume these cells are replaced every seven years. Would i be the same me in seven years to come or am i the eurogee i was seven years back? If i am, what remains in me even after all my cells seven years back have died? If i am not, why do people still refer to me as eurogee and i didn't notice any significant change in me?
Let's remove all the parts of a Toyota car (for instance) and replace it with Honda parts. What should we call the finished product? A Toyota car or Honda car? What makes this car Toyota and not Honda or Honda and not Toyota
This applies to man whose cells are replaced on a daily basis. Am i always a different person every day i wake up or remain the same despite the fact that my cells are replaced everyday?
The above is a philosophical question with the intention to know what makes a man who he is despite all these change he experience on a daily basis. Is he still the man he was yesterday despite having new cells today? Is he the same man he was seven years ago despite having totally new cells running through him? What makes the man today the same man he was seven years ago?
These are philosophical questions and i hope you have one or two answers to give.
Thank you.
