There is a huge amount of social and political dogma being thrown around at the moment, namely by the hard left wing, and it’s worth taking a step back and remembering that while it can be useful to look at the world through a Marxist philosophy, or a reductionist-science philosophy, or through the looking glass of feminist or anti-colonial theory… these are all merely tools that we use to describe the world. None of them are ultimately correct, because this is not pure logic we are dealing with, we are talking about how to live in this world, and how to organise it, and how to treat each other, and ultimately this is empirical- it comes down to opinion.
I, personally, believe in the ultimate worth of each human consciousness regardless of race, religion, sex, gender etc… And while it is useful to look at the world through all these aforementioned philosophies, and blame the fucked up state of our world on the patriarchy, on white males, on colonial powers, on capitalism etc…. I would like to remind you that these theories are not the be all and the end all. They are not the only way to describe this world… they have validity, but not are not the ultimate truth.
So I’d like to remind y’all that there is a philosophical spyglass if you will, that goes one level deeper to recognise that while we are all in different positions of power, vulnerability, privilege and lack thereof, we are all ultimately experiencing a human experience, and this is something that cannot be ignored nor negated. Perhaps the problem with our world, is not that there are systems that seperate us, but that we are failing to see our similar experience, and our inner perceived separation is fact giving rise to and perpetuating the very systems that we claim create separation. I am essentially claiming that we are trying to tear down systems which have arisen from our very inner psyche; A psyche that we are unfortunately painfully unaware of. The fact that we are all human is more important than the fact that some of us are busy exploiting others; and while this exploitation should stop, those who are doing the exploiting are not worthy of hate, nor of dehumanisation, because by labelling them and dehumanising them you are engaging in the very same separatist thinking that has resulted in a world that normalises exploitative behaviour. By dehumanising them, you are empowering and allowing them to do the same to you, and others, and thus exploit the shit out of you. We need consciousness change before (or at least while) we get systemic change. We tried systemic change in the 20th century aka Communism. It didn’t work. Time to try a change in our mode of viewing and compartmentalising the world?
n.b. This is of course a philosophy itself, and is thus merely a tool, no more or less true or valid than those that are currently dominant. I'm just saying it's an underused one.
