We all have a need to be able to look our self in the mirror without seeing a monster that makes us run screaming through the wall leaving a person-shaped hole. How we achieve that can be divided into three different categories. Either you think you know what the highest moral end is and you think you know how to make it happen so you work to change society in that direction. If you need to break a few eggs to make your omelet then so be it, it's for the greater good anyways you tell your self. This is how monsters like Stalin were able to look them selfs in the mirror.
The second category is that it doesn't matter what you do, so as long as you don't hurt anyone your not a monster. This might do the job but I wouldn't be surprised if this is how a lot of germans ware thinking before they partook in the Holocaust.
The third way to avoid a person-shaped hole in your wall is to be humble to the fact that you aren't all knowing, things are complicated and people make mistakes. Since you are a person you are capable of making mistakes just like everyone else, before you run off to fix society or the whole world try to sort yourself out. Start by fixing the things that you know you should do. Maybe you're not taking care of your self? Maybe you need to clean your room and you have been putting it off? Maybe you think you could be a better friend, spouse, father, daughter etcetera? What I'm suggesting is that you look inward, listen to your inner voice. Do what your conscience is telling you to do.
Tell the truth, don't lie to your self or anyone else unless your conscience tells you it's the right thing to do in the situation you find yourself in. Try to understand the world and the people in your life to the extent that you can make wise decisions that don't end up making things worse. Remember to respect peoples free will and admit to yourself and others if you have been wrong or made a mistake. If you have wronged people try to make things right. Strive to earn their forgiveness, never demand it.
