I reckon it was a joke.

That just sounds like a generic thing to say when talking about secret societies. Not that I have any experience, but it sounds copied and not genuine. It's not like he came to you in person with a suitcase of 200k, anyone can say anything on the internet.
Plus, why would a real secret society ask you to join them, if you are the sort of person who tries to expose secret and possibly immoral things on the internet? Surely they would pick someone submissive or easy to bribe/keep quiet.
I mean I know nothing about secret societies but unless they talk to you in person I wouldn't think it's serious.
