It has been ages since I posted about any of my orchids. The truth is that nothing really exciting is in bloom now. And everything that bloomed in spring and rebloomed (or not) I already showed this year.
But this is a special little flower. This one I see for the very first time!!
Cattleya Little Lemon Drops x Cattleytonia Why Not
This is such an adorable little orchid! As mush as I like those big and bushy ones with a meter long flower spikes - they just take so much space! It make me appreciate more those little ones that you can just fit anywhere.
I bought it about 4 years ago I think as a young plant. The shop said it should bloom in about 2 years. So I was waiting and she was growing. Lovely little canes and stiff narrow leaves. No problem with bugs on this one (another plus, some are like magnets for trips, mealybugs and spider mites.. sometimes all in the same time).
This year she got bigger pot too as she was overgrowing the baby one and she just kept growing. Now it is a nice little green bush. And as I started to think that she will not bloom again, I saw a skinny little spike emerging from the tip of one bulb. Yay!
Look at that shape!
I also wasn't quite sure what the flowers will look like. Since it is a hybrid, the colour can slightly vary from plant to plant. The Little Lemon Drops is a yellow orchid and Why Not is a gorgeous red thing. Wouldn't mind having this one as well.
I didn't detect any fragrance, but its ok. She is just adorable!
Only two flowers and I still don't know how long they will last. Cattleyas can keep the blooms from few days to few weeks... so we will see :)
