It was not until recently, that I lost my beloved father, when I realized how much I have been ignoring the absolute wonderfulness of the people surrounding me. It was not until recently that I started noticing and paying attention to the parts of their personality that do not really interfere with me or my daily routine, are however representative of their greatness.
One of these people is my uncle Andreas. His ordinary work is construction related, but in his free time he is also active in voluntarism and politics through his engagement in various governing bodies and clubs of my mother’s (@sofi-m) homeland, Naxos island. Of course for the past weeks, he has left all that aside and doesn’t leave his cousin’s and nieces side to help them cope with their loss.
He knew I loved honey, so he brought me a jar of honey that although it was crystallized initially it tasted divinely. What I didn’t know was that he had collected it himself!!
What do you mean, when did you become a beekeeper?!
Time flies and interests change, and apparently my uncle has found great happiness being among bees. To be honest I don’t get it, I see a bee and run the opposite way, but he loves them. He admires them for the way they are committed to their community, unbelievably organized, bold, witty and insanely productive.
Of course, their productivity is measured in a collective manner. My uncle told me that each bee produces about 1 gram of honey during its lifetime. That doesn’t sound much does it?
Think about it every time you put a teaspoon of honey on your bread, your tea or your honey mustard source!
How many bees have spent their lives for a moment of pleasure in your mouth?
Or simply put for 60 calories?
When you think about this, consider that mankind has been collecting honey for about 15.000 years!
I think I am going to befriend those stingy insects as well… My uncle wants to convince me even further. He takes out his cell phone to show me recent and older pics he took during his visits to his beehives.
Uncle Andreas… you do realize that you take awesome photos, don’t you? These are definitely going up to Steemit!
I LOVE THOSE PHOTOS, I hope you like them too and it goes without saying that I am going to give him all the value of the post’s rewards if any. (He won’t understand where they really came from but he will make a good use of them to expand his bee operations – or maybe get a better camera?)
