This particular beast usually dwells in an underground burrow. They are known as Mole Crickets, (Gryllotalpa sp. ). I only see these Mole crickets if I accidentally dig one up while gardening, or else, as in this case, they come to the surface after heavy rain. It was half drowned, crawling across my driveway. I put it in a terracotta pot and let it dry off and then released it after the rain had passed.
In the first shot you can see the powerful forelegs that are used for digging. I've also included an older video I took. I believe I posted this before but some may not have seen it. It includes a recording I made of their chirruping call.
