Anything is possible
Could be that I already posted this build in the past. However, never with these pictures and words - another take on other parts of a long hobby task of making a scale model. In the early stages of this model construction, I felt it was going to be quite special. The end result was about as expected however. AKA I'd love to get another few years practice on this insane little hobby! (literally).
Let's review the 959 build :)
Initial sprue cuts and laying out, the Tamiya details are a treat...
The 'before' shot, still in the cellophane. It is a lovely sight, yet let us rip it open and destroy it all by attempting to turn it into a 1/24 scale Porsche ... hehehe
We're actually going to wanna file these parts all down, airbrush in primer, then airbrush them in realistic colors, then airbrush it again in clear or matte varnish depending on the desired effect. Here we think about what to pre-assemble prior to paint. The process takes immense patience, and practice - to achieve those desirable results. I can only ... keep practicing! (still I have a long way to go, something I consider a lifelong hobby).
This bunch of plastic in a plastic wrapper, can be turned into a realistic looking scale model of a car, which is something quite speial to certain types of people. i.e., MODEL MAKERS :)
None is as complicated as it first appears, once you learn the keys and go step by step. Take your time,
Really, most of the hard work is already done for you. Look at the detail of these parts.
Here is the body of this 959 model at some stage of the build, along with a bunch of the Matchbox cars I was somehow doing alongside. (must have been worst spot of lockdown!) It's a good use of excess product, when planning ahead I can use up leftover paint or primer on the small project items.
959 body fit test with the engine in .. more below
This 959 kit from Tamiya comes with a really neat engine to build. I spent a lot on getting those exhaust wraps looking like the real thing.
Primer time
Tragedy is, it's all going to be covered up by the body!
This build wasn't about authenticity, I just liked this color which is a from a spraycan. It suits the car and seems like it could indeed be original ... legit ;)
This took a lot of time, that's for sure. Pretty happy that it looks like a proper thing, on the shelf, when not inspecting or picking faults too close! In the end, I'm itching bad to do another one, even better ... rinse and repeat :)
Not at all disappointing with how it ended up, after so many many hours
