This week's Macro Monday theme: The Periodic Table
Here's a macro shot of a Helium-Neon laser. The two gaseous elements form a mixture in the evacuated glass tube, and are necessary for the laser-generating process. More info here:

Half-Lit Nopal or El?
By: EX22218 - ON/OFF
Another half-lit sign spotted in Louisville. Depends on what you're focused on. I have to give them a big thumbs up for doing their part in energy conservation (didn't drive around front to see the Health Department rating). Didn't eat here as we'd just had some Pho across the street. Only recommendation by looking at the exterior? Hire a pressure washing company - I don't know what it's raining in Louisville but it does't look right. Here's your scores right here - can you find 'em? <a href="http://portal. louisvilleky |

Cincinnati Ohio ~ Over the Rhine District ~ Davis Furniture ~ Vintage Photo
By: Onasill ~ Bill Badzo
When historic buildings are proposed to be demolished in Over the Rhine, the case is first presented to the Historic Conservation Board (HCB). The HCB makes a determination whether the demolition is appropriate or not (issuing a Certificate of Appropriateness -COA- in cases where it is appropriate). While most people associate the deteriorating building on the west side of Main Street between Central Parkway and 12th Street with the Davis Furniture Company, the history of the building goes further back than the business' arrival in 1939. Davis Furniture was founded in 1902 and had a store on Sycamore Street until 1931, when they moved to the now-demolished Jefferson Hall at the southwest corner of 12th and |

The Torches
By: Curt Bianchi
The Torches Motel, Barstow, California. Don’t know too much about this place, but several years ago it was for sale for $799,000. Or you could buy it and the neighboring Route 66 Motel for a cool $1. 75 million. Less than $45,000 per room! Seemed like a well-maintained place when I stopped by. Evidently the “MOTEL†sign rotates, judging by other photographs of that I have seen. |

Driving by with my dog I was somewhat amused by this sign so I stopped to take a shot - this gentleman comes outside and asks, "Why you take my picture?" I say "because I like your sign" give him a thumbs up, smiled and drove off. "A" Rating. Spotted at 12480 Lagrange Road, Louisville 40245

Vintage Gulf Service Station.
By: The Old Texan
Waco, Texas: Restored 1929 Gulf Station
A full restoration, completed in Oct. 2014, with vintage gas pumps and neon signage. The work of brothers Gary and Randy Balusek, who just wanted a place to hang out and work on their old cars. No fuel dispensed. And along the way, they began dressing it up with Gulf memorabilia, including vintage signs from Pennsylvania and Maine and some gas pumps from around 1950 that had been stored in a barn in West,Texas. In the first comment box is a day shot I posted before they had their signs installed. |

The Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort (commonly known as Fallsview Casino) in Niagara Falls, Ontario opened publicly on June 10, 2004. This $1 billion complex overlooks the Horseshoe Falls and is one of the most prominent features of the Niagara skyline. The site was once the transformer station building for the Ontario Power Company at the foot of Horseshoe Falls. |

Tyne Bridge Noir
Out last night nice and late trying some night shots. Think I'll have to try some more of these. This is a slight merge of two shots to get the height of the bridge in. Again with the Noir Blade Runner Movie preset which I'm still enjoying. A nice warm night which makes the difference. Worth being tired to be warm in my opinion. <a href="https://www |

This image comes from a fun night shoot with none other than MattyD90, as you likely knew. In fact, I believe he rolled up on the scene as I was exposing the frame. I like the green and pink neon color scheme. It really stands out. This is certainly San Jose's best display of that down on West San Carlos Street. In any case, thanks for having a look! |

Burj Khalifa Blue Hour Illumination (explored)
By: hpd-fotografy
In Dubai they sometimes illuminate one side of the Burj Khalifa. I can't read Arabian, but I guess it's probably nothing more than a commercial for the ever-present Emaar real estate company. Nonetheless, it's looks nicer than the Burj without illumination, but I still wanted something more than that. So I planned this shot as a long exposure during blue hour and across the water, so I get a nice reflection, choosing an angle where one could fully see the illuminated side of the Burj. Hope it worked. Thanks for your visit. If you like my images, stop by at <a href="http://www |
