Hi everyone.
I live in hotels a lot for my job. I figured I'd share my routine with you all as I'm in a bit of a more sketchy hotel this evening. I search for bedbugs and roaches.
First thing, bags never go on fabric. Not on a chair, not on a spare bed, only on a hard surface. That way even if you do have bites in the morning, your stuff won't have bedbugs, so you won't take any home.
I don't care how fancy a hotel is, where it is, how expensive it is, any hotel can have bedbugs. Next we peel back the sheets and check all corners of the bed for bugs, droppings or molted shells. They're small dark brown critters, very nasty, check the matress and all furniture, it doesnt take long.
My next tip is never ever use a hotel coffee maker. I mean never. Gross people do gross things with them. And if a hotel has glass wear, etc. I won't use that either.
Another tip, take photos of the room. Before and after, some of these sketchy places (this one did) ask for a damage deposit, then after you get home you'll find it doesn't get returned, when you call them they claim you trashed the room, smoked in it, etc. It's happened to me.
This may seem foreign to some, but I can spend as many as 100 nights a year in hotels/motels, and have never yet taken parasites home, and have never had a hotel successfully accuse me of damage, but oh have they tried... I've also found bugs and told management and immediately grabbed my bag, left, and spent the night in my truck.
Anyways, thats my world, I find most hotels are great and their staff, cleaners, management are excellent... and this hotel passed my test, but I still do my routine. Every time.
