I just noticed a new addition to the top of the My Feed page.
Pinned Post
Pinned Post is a common social media feature that allows a user to highlight an important piece of content. The following are some of my reflections about how the Pinned Post feature will impact our Steemit.com experience.
Pros
- Quick access to important news from Steemit Inc. - I feel that it is important as members of the Steem community to be aware of major developments that are taking place with the Steem blockchain and Steemit.com interface. This could be a great opportunity for @ned to speak to the community. Even if you follow @ned and/or other major Steem In.c accounts, you might not see the posts as they move quickly through your feed.
Cons
- This feels like a centralized move. - I am all about openly sharing important information. This could be a great tool for Steemit Inc. to communicate to the community. However, at present, it appears that Steem community members do not have a say in the matter. It feels like a top-down move, one directional. Is this a feature for Steemit Inc or for the Steem community?
- This feature is not available on our Blog pages. - There is an existing feature that allows us to create a link, but having a Pinned Post option on our blog page would be even more attention-grabbing and visual appealing. It would be nice to have the ability to directed our content consumers to content that we deem to be most important.
Questions
I still have a few questions. If you have any thoughts or definitive answers, please leave a comment below.
- Can we elect to not receive pinned posts on the My Feed page?
- Who are the decision makers who decide what is pinned to the My Feed page?
- What are the criteria for deciding what post gets pinned?
Thanks for stopping by!
