Recently I saw a video showing how to multiply your typical Basil plant that you can buy at the supermarket. I like playing around with planting stuff so I decided to try it, and so far it's looking great!
It's all pretty simple, anyone can do it at home. Buy some basil in a pot, cut some of the plants below the nodes where the leafs grow, and put them in a glass/mug with water for ~2 weeks. By this time they will have many roots and you can plant them in pots with soil. A couple of weeks later you will get, supposedly (I didn't get that far yet), healthy basil plants ready to harvest.
I am currently in the middle of the process, today I planted some of the shoots I had cut and have been growing roots in the water
I am using plastic pots and used packages of milk/yogurt (if like me you don't have enough pots for so much basil)
Let's multiply it even more, I still have many plants growing from the original pot
First cut the plant below the nodes where the leafs grow
And then cut/remove the leafs from the two lower nodes. I've prepared a few
Leave them in water (I used mugs). Looking good...
Looking "foresty" :D Make sure they stay in a place with plenty light and warm
Maybe in a few weeks I will post a small update on how it is looking, hopefully lush green with plenty of leaves.
Next time you see basil in the store remember to buy one and go ahead and try it yourself :)
