Pretty late to the game, I saw this contest early on and was planning to enter it, however, due to some stressful circumstances in life, I completely forgot about it. So like a slacker in school, here I am making logos on the very last day of the contest just like it was always meant to be...
I'm super excited about this project, @ragnarok.game is an exciting multi-game universe that will come to fruition, where NFTs will be used across multiple projects, and to be frank: Is exactly what I've been wanting to see in NFT-Gaming for about 2 or 3 years now: These are transferrable assets: It's not just about ownership, you can take these assets into different Chains, into different Games, into different software! We've seen similar aspects of this in Gaming for as long as I can remember: Saves carrying over to sequels, trading Pokemon across versions and consoles, it's a unique aspect of ownership that games rarely focus on; But that's a rant for another time! You guys want to see some logos:
Finished Logo: Stone Tablet Style "Laguz"

Inspiration
Viking Runes

My inspiration in this piece comes from multiple sources: First, the runic style of the text is designed based off of Norse Symbols, drawing inspiration from these, I chose to utilize a few of them directly, (including Laguz, Sowelu, Ehhwaz, etc) while also making sure to create distinctly different symbols, as a new take on the old. Casting them into Stone and making them glow vibrantly in a strong orange felt like the best option here.
True to the Norse roots of the term Ragnarok, I wanted to give a bit more significance to the Norse elements of the name, while also paying homage to the combination of gods, the clash of realms, and the world either crashing together in war or coming together in Unity
Valknut

This led to Valknut: A symbol of 3 interconnected triangles, this felt like the best representation of the project: The coming together of multiple pantheons in war and in unity to stop the End Times.
With 3 simple, but powerful symbols, I had what I needed to create the logo.
Design Process
The Design process for this one was pretty straightforward:
- I sketched the original concept in different concepts, trying to find the strongest combination, in doing this process I found my slogan of choice for this particular logo: A Game of Gods.
- Dark Linework and Simple Text for the Stone Background and the Text as a whole: Simple, clean.
- This is Ragnarok, forget Clean: Let's make some grainy stone patterns, shadows, and glow. 2 Layers, 1 for Darks, 1 for Lights.
- Re-outlining the text in a more vibrant, lighter orange to create a neon glow effect.
- Icons! No Logo is perfect without a few small icons of the symbolism: I chose the Laguz symbol, and the Valknut, as I felt these were the most powerful, iconic symbols that could be used.
- Create an alternate version: The Norse Rune "Raido" means "Journey" and I felt like that could be a nice option as well!
Alternate Version: Raido "Journey"

Things I would've liked to do:
Since I did this in about a day, I didn't get the opportunity to really experiment and find new concepts or ideas within the logo itself: A lot of the fun of making a logo is then modifiying and experimenting with it, and I usually like to offer 2-3 different colorations: Here I was planning to do a Blue Steel / Cyan Color Combination, along with a Black and Red one, however, each of these would need a different type of glow effect and different shading to mimic the rocks I had in mind (Obsidian for one, and Ore Deposits for the other). I was also considering a Fool's Gold and Yellow version. These will be things I refine later on as, at the very least, a 24 hour mock-up for my resume.
If I had started when I wanted to, and not become side tracked with Work and Life, I would've animated the piece: With the Cracks slowly growing, and the glow of the runes shimmering and flickering.
Alas, these mock-ups were what I was able to get done in the time frame I made for myself outside of my contract work. You win some, you lose some.
If you'd like to see my second mock-up, it'll be linked here:
