fear turned green
potential fulfiled
to some degree
your new leaves
just beginning to show
their vulnerability
too young to eat
but I marvel at your splendour
as I know
soon
you will nourish my body
aching in yearning and craving
for your tender taste
it is at this stage
that I wonder
how life turned out so beautifully
even the slightest touch
will destroy you forever
yet here you are
growing that second set of leaves
true leaves
created from nothing
but some soil and water
beauty in the myriad
green fingers protruding
from the soil
their vulnerability
exhibited
only a few will survive
the first wave
of heat
not everyone has yet
showed the second leaves
still in their infancy
only protected by their sheer numbers
for now
they only showcase potential
for a better future
Postscriptum, or When Will They be Ready?
I love to see the new set of leaves, or true leaves, on my plants when they start to grow. It is amazing to see the growth even if only after two or so weeks. Nature is amazing in the way she grows and I cannot believe that we gardeners can create basically something from nothing. Obviously, this is not totally true, but the fact remains, that we basically put something in the ground and it grows into something spectacular. It feels like we are creating something from nothing, being gods in our backyards.
In any case, I hope that this spring day was wonderful and had some beautiful weather in store for you.
Happy gardening and stay well.
The words, poems and writings in this post are my own creations, albeit inspired by these small little plants. All of the photographs are also my own, taken with my Nikon D300.
