History may or may not repeat itself like artillery fire, however it sure does have a way of proving that humans are humans and that humans make the same mistakes over and over again!
LESSONS FROM OUT PAST!
One thing that has happened in Australia’s past that has never actually been EMPHASIZED in the mainstream media was the fact that Australians in Australia were left all alone during the second world war.
Apart from being “bombed” numerous times we were sitting ducks for the potential invading forces.
Britain had literally taken ALL our qualified military, from men, women to all our assets.
The Australian Navy was in the Mediterranean region, our Air Force was literally in the UK and Northern Africa.
Our Army was in Africa and in Singapore, where in large numbers our soldiers that were in Singapore became POW’s no thanks to the Brits.
Australias defence forces were everywhere except in Australia.
Our government introduced a conscription, which was not taken well by the “left” in Australian politics. Thus resulting in changes within the government of Australia, something that was in fact borderline with treason if you ask me.
First of all who the hell has heard of "elections during a world war"?
& further more, in the given situation, conscription was a logical necessity.
What patriot destabilizes its government for introducing a law for conscription during a world war, especially in the above described situation? & for what? so that they can win elections during a world war...... WTF????????
Let me just make note of the following:
"ALP leader John Curtin, while supporting the war effort, resisted Menzies' offers to form an all party national government."
In all that turmoil, some ministers died in a plane crash, some "politicians" wanted more power within the government and so on, and so on........
While the entire time the question was, Who was left in Australia to defend Australia against an invading force?
Civilians.
That is correct. Civilians. Yes there were some forces left in Australia, but not nearly enough to cover the territory of our continent/country.
To give you an idea of the size of our country, here is a simple comparison:
Again, those “politicians” that let this happen, well, lets just leave it at that.
However, once the Germans jumped into Africa, saving the Italian forces and driving our forces out of Africa, the Australian troops had to go through waters controlled by the Japanese (then Enemy) to get back to Australia.
There really wasn’t any other option as the other route was through German held territory up to the UK. This was practically impossible as the logistics that the Brits had was barely able to cover their own troops, let alone Aussies too. So luckily our troops went home and not to the UK.
That didn’t stop the Brits from taking a large number of Aussies up to the UK, as they were having a very hard time in their war efforts against the Germans.
Kind of sounds a bit like WWI.... hmmmm.......
Anyway,
Some of the sources out there claim that Australia for a time there was considering a plan of action that was too burn the northern cities in case of invasion and have everyone move to the other side of the desert. Supposedly MacArthur was the person who was (logically) totally against this idea.
Was this true?
I don’t know, have never read any official documents to confirm this 100%, however that it could have been a plan of action in case of invasion, makes some sense in the above described situation.
However, not to drag out the “history lesson” here, lets see what lessons history can give to us!
As, stated in the intro, history may not “repeat” but it sure does seem to confirm that people do the same things over and over again!
Civilians?
If not trained to be capable of defending themselves and their families/homes are at danger if their military forces are not in the immediate vicinity to do so for them.
So, it is only logical that civilians be capable of defending themselves and their loved ones if an enemy were to attack.
Does this not sound logical?
Especially when taking into consideration the size of Australia and the number of people in our defense forces.
Again, I shall not go into the details and numbers here, the purpose of this post was to show how in a time of war/crisis in other parts of this world, Australia has (can again) be put into a position where civilians shall have to defend themselves.
Hmmmmmmmmmm...............
Food for thought, at least for those who want to think about the facts!
