In a recent hack, a hacker infiltrated the systems of the #blockchain platform Poly Network and stole #Binance Smart Chain ( #BSC), #Ethereum (ETH) and #Polygon worth approximately $600 million .
📌Hackers Return Stolen Assets
This attack was recorded as the biggest #DeFi hacking event in the #crypto #money industry . With the attack, hackers transferred the assets in the said blockchains to their own wallets.
These transfers took place over the Ethereum, Binance Smart Chain (BSC) and #Polygon networks to three different wallet addresses associated with the hacker. Poly Network confirmed the hack in a tweet on Tuesday.
📌After the attack, Poly Network urged the cybercriminal to return the stolen funds in a post addressed to the hacker. The post by Poly Network is as follows:
“The amount of money you hacked is the largest ever stolen in the DeFi industry. Law enforcement in any country will see this as a major economic crime and you will soon be caught.”
📌Following this call from Poly Network, data from Etherscan shows that the hacker returned $2 million Shiba Inu ( #SHIB) and $616,000 Fei USD ( #FEI) tokens. On the other hand, data from #BscScan shows that the hacker returned 23.88 Binance-peg Bitcoin ( #BTCB) to Poly Network. At the time of writing, the total value of the returned cryptocurrencies is just over $1 million.
📌Returned Amount Less Than 1% of Amount Stolen
From the hacker's wallet address, a refund of $1,010,100 sent in three transactions so far has been received. After the attack, the hacker returned a total of $ 4.6 million worth of cryptocurrency. However, the total value of the returned assets is less than 1% of the nearly $600 million worth of assets stolen from Poly Network .
