Hi Everyone!
Hello Sketchbook community, and welcome back to emanate artworx. Today I'm sharing another portrait study. This time it's of a lady looking up and away. If I'm being honest, this one gave me a lot of trouble when it came to both her features and the lighting.
But I had to persevere because I just couldn't handle another eternal wip in my gallery. š I used Magic Poser to get the light source and a reference from unsplash.com to kinda get the features of the face. The reference pic was of a young woman, but in my study I turned her into someone with a few more years on her face.
Despite the difficulties I had with this study, I'm glad it's over and I'm already on to the next portrait. Practice makes perfect, right? Magic Poser is really good for basic positions and light source, and I see its worth, however sometimes the poses look stiff, like a mannequin. I feel like using photos is better for a more natural appearance. There are so many resources available, no need to be married to one that is less than ideal.
One of these days I'll make it back out into a public area where I can sketch from life, the best reference. š§” Below, you'll see the process pics from this study.
