I’ve been a little shaken today after hearing about the death of this young Ghanaian entrepreneur. She was a carpenter, a hardworking one for that matter, and the first of her kind in Ghana. When she started her carpentry journey, people were laughing at her, and others even told her to look for something easier because it was a profession for men. But she didn’t listen to anyone; she kept going.
Years along the line, she started making money and supplying a large number of people. And from there, people started applauding her, which is a normal thing for human beings to do. They first criticize you and do everything to bring you down, but the moment you stand your ground and actually succeed, they clap for you.
After years of grinding, she finally opened her furniture factory and all other things relating to carpentry. She also bought herself a new Range Rover and then took both her factory and car to social media to celebrate her success. Everything was okay, and those around her said she didn’t show any serious signs of illness, but just this morning, she was found dead.
I’ve heard several stories of people being killed or poisoned right after they show their success on social media. Personally, telling strangers on the internet about my achievements isn’t something I’m a fan of, but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that. People do that a lot, and if that’s what makes them happy, fine.
I just don’t know why people do it, and they end up dead: either poisoned by friends or drowned at a party or something hideous. This generation, aside from everything, has found a way to create family and connections on the internet, and that’s why they run there to share everything that happens in their lives.
But now, things are getting worse. Honestly, I don’t know what to say. I don’t know what people should do. I think everyone should be able to do what they want, but situations are getting out of hand. As I said earlier, I don’t like sharing my wins on social media, not even to people who aren’t in my circle. People are just two-faced these days. You think someone wants what’s best for you today, and tomorrow, you find them waging a war against you for reasons known to them.
I don't want to say everyone should do the same thing as me, but I think with the way things are going, we should be cautious of what we put out there. There really are predators everywhere, and it’s on us to protect ourselves. If there’s one thing I’ve learned and will never forget, it’s the fact that people can’t ruin what they don’t know.
