While I would likely start with some description of the plot of the game or what does it stand out compared to others if I were more familiar with the game, I admittedly only have played it for the first time recently with friends - so I'm going to go with what I caught on my own.
...And what I caught was a game that reminded me in hindsight of when I played Phantasy Star Online many years ago - essentially going into a mission going between several levels with a four-man squad and picking up any items or upgrades that show up.
Risk of Rain 2 is a FPS that is similar in a vague premise - but is designed in a roguelike fashion...so not only you'll be sent to random worlds with random placements of items and enemies - but also, if you are playing alone and get wiped [or your entire time gets wiped at once], it's back to square one.
It sure makes for an interesting dynamic of high highs when you are getting stacked with power-ups and making progress - and the lowest of lows when you get attacked by a swarm of enemies, die and end up losing all what you had achieved.
With that said, time to go on the basic highlights of what I saw when I played it.
I played with a low resolution and video settings to keep a high framerate on my PC - so apologies for the low quality on those.
Get equipped at all times
When you start a run, your first instinct is to hunt down enemies for coins and use said coins to open chests that can have useful loot to improve your durability, mobility or firepower amongst other things.
In most levels, the goal is to arrive to a Teleporter and escape the planet - but in the runs I have played, my buddies and me have spent more time searching for loot even when we find the Teleporter early due to a little detail:
If you try to activate the teleporter, a boss will spawn.
It would already be likely inconvenient to search for loot if it is spawned [as it also spawns more enemies], but the boss spawn blocks any chests from being opened...so yeah, make sure you stack up on what you find BEFORE triggering the boss, defeating it and THEN being allowed to actually activate the Teleporter - warping you out of the level.
Oh, and if you have a bunch of coins but haven't spent them on unused loot by that point, it is recommendable - as you will lose all your coins on a planet when you go to another.
If you think you're broken, just wait until the swarm gets bigger
There's a good reason for trying to clean sweep a planet before leaving as fast as possible though - there's a difficulty indicator on the top right corner that will slowly but steadily move from the lowest to highest. You'll start at easy, but then you'll see Normal, Hard, Very Hard, Impossible, I SEE YOU-
...That is a difficulty name for sure.
In any case, the game has that aspect running at all times to incentive all of you to move on quickly while trying to stick together safely - as if your teammates fall while there's a big horde around, it's gonna be a very steep uphill to endure on your own.
For example, here, it was a run where we had got quite far, but as they got ambushed by these huge amount of enemies, one by one they fell - until I was the last one standing. I ran back and forth trying to keep my health afloat [you passively regenerate health], but still trying to attack some of the enemies nearby while trying to not be in front of ALL of them.
Turns out that the harder the difficulty, the higher the quantity of bosses may spawn - or that's the impression it gave me. Because I was running away from one huge round boss, then I saw another one...and another one...and then when I tried going at a high area, there was ANOTHER one that caught me off-guard.
On the flipside, while this is only likely when it happens early on a run [or if you are unreasonably stacked to the point you can solo it even in a team run], it IS possible to pass to the next planet even if the rest are dead if you defeat the boss and activate the teleporter, and if you do, your teammates will revive.
This is obviously something that is more reasonable to do if it is just one or two players that have died instead of THREE out of the four-player team - but if you somehow can do it, you may be able to carry your team and run into staying alive a bit longer, like here where my teammates somehow ran into a strong enemy by accident and ended up spending some minutes dodging them, attacking the boss and approaching the Teleporter zone periodically to then be able to exit the planet.
But again, easier said than done if it is anything outside of the earlier difficulties.
Big buffs, big potential
At a base level, you can choose between a few classes, with most of the rest being locked behind specific unlock conditions - and even the usual classes have a few alternate default skills that also need to be unlocked.
But of course, the aforementioned powerups that you can find are varied and useful in different ways - which also double as visible cosmetics.
For example, this item here, while the low resolution makes it harder to read, increases my chances to deal Critical Damage with my attacks...and slaps some red glasses to my character!
Another funny item I had got in another run was this one, Breaching Fin, which has a chance of lifting an enemy you hit with your attacks into the air...and because this was the one run where I was the only one surviving that planet into the next one, I actually got FOUR of those [one meant for me, and the other three meant for my fallen teammates], so sometimes whenever I hit enemies with those, they would get slightly shoved upwards four times.
And even bosses could sometimes get affected by that.
Again, how far will you get though may not only depend of your loot and even taking your chances at some of the statues [some spawn enemies for you to fight, some may or may not give you an item, some are guaranteed to give you money or an item at the cost of half your health], but also how your team manages to fend off against the enemies that will keep increasing in quantity and endurance if time moves on for too long.
Conclusion
It is a neat game. I can see how it could be interesting to play even if alone [as I assume the game will balance itself for that situation], but it is sure a game that feels proper when you can get a squad together to try and get to the end.
Reminds me of when I used to play Left 4 Dead 2 long ago with buddies - I still have it installed but haven't had a chance to play it again...
Oh well, at least that's a good first impression of this game for me, and one that was at least brief enough to not extend myself for as long as I usually do 😅

En la mayorÃa de los niveles, el objetivo es llegar a un Teletransportador y escapar del planeta - pero en las partidas que he jugado, mis compañeros y yo hemos pasado más tiempo buscando botÃn incluso cuando encontramos el Teletransportador pronto debido a un pequeño detalle:
Si intentas activar el teletransportador, aparecerá un jefe.
Ya serÃa probablemente inconveniente buscar botÃn si aparece [ya que también aparece más enemigos], pero la aparición del jefe bloquea la apertura de cualquier cofre... asà que sÃ, asegúrate de acumular lo que encuentres ANTES de activar al jefe, derrotarlo y LUEGO que se te permita activar el teletransportador - sacándote del nivel.

Corrà de un lado a otro tratando de mantener mi salud a flote [se regenera pasivamente la salud], pero tratando de atacar a algunos de los enemigos cercanos mientras trataba de no estar delante de TODOS ellos.
Resulta que cuanto más difÃcil es la dificultad, mayor es la cantidad de jefes que pueden aparecer - o esa es la impresión que me dio. Porque estaba huyendo de un enorme jefe redondo, luego vi otro... y otro... y luego cuando intenté ir a una zona alta, habÃa OTRO que me pilló desprevenido.

Una vez más, lo lejos que llegues no sólo dependerá de tu botÃn e incluso de arriesgarte en algunas de las estatuas [algunas generan enemigos con los que luchar, otras pueden o no darte un objeto, otras te garantizan dinero o un objeto a costa de la mitad de tu salud], sino también de cómo se las arregle tu equipo para defenderse de los enemigos, que seguirán aumentando en cantidad y resistencia si el tiempo pasa demasiado.
Conclusión
Es un juego interesante. Puedo ver que podrÃa ser interesante jugarlo incluso en solitario [ya que supongo que el juego se equilibrará para esa situación], pero sin duda es un juego que se siente bien cuando puedes reunir a un equipo para intentar llegar al final.
Me recuerda a cuando jugaba a Left 4 Dead 2 hace mucho tiempo con mis amigos; aún lo tengo instalado, pero no he tenido la oportunidad de volver a jugarlo...
