It was an embarrassment that Saki, as one of the largest towns in Oyo State hardly has an electricity supply in a month.
It is not a new thing to indigene that the power supply in the town is bad and this has made some lucrative businesses crumble as a result of unstable light.
It was very usual for the staff of IBEDC to bring the monthly electricity bill for the people of the community so that they would be able to pay for the light that is of no use to them.
The condition of electricity supply in Saki is in poor condition and it needs urgent intervention from the government and the concerned people and organizations.
The issue of the transformer in the town is another area to be addressed. Some areas in Saki were in blackout for more than five (5) years without a transformer to supply power to their community, it was two (2) years ago when a State Honourable representing the constituency came to their aid.
This was when the election was far approaching and there were lots of controversies on the repairing of the transformer from the political parties, but it was later resolved and the community transformer was fixed.
Presently, in Saki, you will hardly see a new transformer but instead a rusty transformer that serves almost five big areas in the town. This was still not in favor of new areas as they did not have the experience of the power supply. It was in Saki that I discovered that each landlord would have to pay for a wooden electric pole and connection wires for him to be able to have a connection of electricity from the pole in his house.
The rate at which the money of the citizens is being siphoned by the management of the IBEDC is so uncalled for and this needs to be addressed as a matter of urgency for these inhumane and unfair actions cannot continue that way.
The concerned people and organizations should try to act fast to give their customers prepaid meters as this will reduce the act of cheating for the IBEDC officials.
In recent times there was news that the federal government of Nigeria has approved the installation of a power line for Saki West Local Government. I hope it came to pass.
The effects of unstable electricity in Saki have made the economy of the town crumble and this has made the investors go to a better location that is more suitable for their businesses.
Some time ago, they gave the light two days on and one day off and this has been the system not until now that doesn't even see them flash the light.
The efforts of the community leaders and other stakeholders in the town have yielded no positive results.
A stable electricity supply in the community will improve the economy of the community and the state. It will attract investors to come down to the town to make a big investment that will boost the GDP of the town, state, and country.
