There is a long history behind the fragrant aroma and deliciousness of Gayo coffee, so that it is known not only in Indonesia but also throughout the world. One of these historical relics can be seen if we visit Bandar Lampahan, Timang Gajah District, Bener Meriah Regency, Aceh Province. It is not difficult to find the remains of a coffee processing factory in Bandar Lampahan.
If you pass along Jalan Raya Bireun-Takengon, the position of the former factory is not far from the entrance to the Mount Burni Telong tourist attraction, or in front of the hot springs in Bandar Lampahan. Don't imagine that you will find a complete factory building at that location. What remains of the coffee processing factory in Bandar Lampahan are three large buildings consisting of a former storage warehouse, a building for processing coffee cherries and a building for drying coffee beans.
The most prominent building and easily seen from the side of the road is a former coffee storage warehouse. From the outside, the condition of the building, which is mostly made of wood, has rotted from time to time. Now the building has changed its function only as a place to store livestock, much of the wood in the two-story building is rotting and some of it has been stolen.
Interestingly, the coffee machine was controlled only by a turbine engine which was sent from England directly via ship in 1900.
