Me parece un tema donde existe mucha tela por dónde cortar. África prácticamente es padre o madre de nuestro continente. Casualmente, me enteré hoy que la próxima Feria del Libro en Cuba será dedicada a Sudáfrica, uno de los países más desarrollados en la actualidad de dicho continente, que tanto tiene para ser más grande y poderoso.
Debido a que soy cubano, me gustaría dar mi valoración de cuan influyente han sido las raíces africanas en mi sociedad, y lo haré específicamente en dos típicos específicos: música y religión.
Empezaré por la religión, y es que los esclavos traídos por los colonos españoles, dejaron una huella imborrable. Aunque el Cristianismo ha avanzado mucho en el mundo, y en mi país también, los seguidores de la religión Yoruba, Carabalí, Abakuá, y los ritos y ceremonias asociadas a ellos, siguen siendo muchos y diría yo que cada vez son más.

Coincidentally, I found out today that the next Book Fair in Cuba will be dedicated to South Africa, one of the most developed countries of that continent today, which has so much to be bigger and more powerful.
Because I am Cuban, I would like to give my assessment of how influential African roots have been in my society, and I will do so specifically in two specific areas: music and religion.
I will start with religion, because the slaves brought by the Spanish colonists left an indelible mark. Although Christianity has advanced a lot in the world, and in my country as well, the followers of the Yoruba, Carabalí, Abakuá religion, and the rites and ceremonies associated with them, are still many and I would say that they are more and more.
XDe hecho, en las esferas más altas del gobierno, se le ha dado un tratamiento especial a estas religiones, a tal punto que prefieren optar por las ayudas sobrenaturales que les pueden ofrecer estas, por encima de las de los cristianos. Casi que hasta asesoría de que hacer en el país le piden.
Y claro, la política es parte de este juego, por supuesto, pues(sin entrar tan profundo en el tema), hay mucha oposición en los sectores cristianos de la que se encuentran en las religiones africanas.
De todas maneras, aunque el gobierno no favoreciera las culturas africanas, en la población existe un porcentaje bien amplio que seguiría creyendo en ellas.
Saliendo entonces de la religión, voy a meterme en la música. Y es que la percusión de los géneros cubanos, le mueve el alma a cualquiera. La influencia de los tambores africanos le ha dado, sin temor a equivocarme, el éxito que hoy tiene la música cubana.

So, leaving religion, I am going to get into music. The percussion of the Cuban genres moves anyone's soul. The influence of African drums has given, without fear of being wrong, the success that Cuban music has today.

Y claro, la gente cuando escuchar hablar de música cubana, puede que se le asome a su mente géneros como el Son, la Guaracha, el Pilón, el Cha Cha Cha, el Mozambique y otros, pero si le menciono el Reparto, muchos que no son cubanos se quedarán en blanco.
Pues el Reguetón es mucho tumpa tumpa, como dijera el Chombo, y en toda América Latina, se hace mercado con este género, y el Reparto, es una especie de Reguetón cubano, que hasta cierto punto, no es muy aceptado en la sociedad como algo elegante para escuchar, pero cuando suena, a la gente se le olvida si son intelectuales, médicos, profesores, barrenderos, amas de casa o lo que sea, y prácticamente no puedes dejar de bailar.
¿De dónde viene la influencia?, pues de África. Tanto tiempo que ha pasado y el músico cubano que quiera volverse popular, tiene que llenarse de africanía, aunque su base sea de otra corriente, como Cimafunkpor ejemplo o tal vez Qva Libre, par de agrupaciones que a pesar de hacer música de corte más anglosajón, incorporaron su base africana, y esto los hizo muy exitosos en la población cubana, pues de otra manera hubiese sido "música extraña" para nosotros.

Where does the influence come from, well, from Africa. So much time has passed and the Cuban musician who wants to become popular, has to fill himself with African music, even if his base is from another current, like Cimafunk, for example, or maybe Qva Libre, a couple of groups that despite making more Anglo-Saxon music, incorporated their African base, and this made them very successful in the Cuban population, because otherwise it would have been "strange music" for us.
