People refer to multitasking as if it were a superpower. I think it's a trap. I remember one time, a friend said, "If you're doing two projects while I'm doing one, you've got to at least realize you're putting in 50% of your effort into each, or you're not going to keep up." And he's right. If you have four businesses, how are you going to give a hundred percent to any single one?
We see people like Elon Musk, managing enormous projects as if it were effortless. But the reality is that most people aren't him. Most of us, if we spread ourselves too thin, we begin to drop the ball. You can't concentrate properly if your attention is divided into too many pieces. My friend even said that some people think they're superhuman, but most of us just aren't wired that way.
Maybe we should just keep it simple, focus on the essential things, and not overestimate our capabilities.
When you try to be everywhere at once, you end up being there, but will you really be performing any of it well?
