Recently, I have enrolled in an e-certificate course. It requires me to submit the worksheets weekly via google forms. The worksheets are to be filled in manually via pen on paper (not digitally). After filling them up, the students are supposed to take the image and convert it to a pdf file.
Before starting the course the admin provided us with the guiding tutorials about how-to. When I submitted my first worksheet, the experience was smooth. It hardly took me a minute to get done with the procedure.
Nevertheless, the next week, for the second worksheet, I was unable to find the file in the location (download/camscanner) it should be.
I had a slot of nearly 45 minutes in which I planned to submit my worksheet and then read some blogs on Hive. However, the submission procedure that was supposed to be done within a minute took me forever. That’s how the plans fail 😑. An unanticipated problem may arise out of nowhere, and smashes all the thought out programs. Truly, life is unpredictable.
I am pretty novice in the use of apps. Moreover, I do have a fear of cyber related technology and avoid to use it, unless there is a desperate need. I watched the guiding tutorial twice but couldn’t figure any way out.
I explored the app and applied various options but nothing worked. I sent a WhatsApp of the pdf file to my number. The WhatsApp files automatically move to downloads, but it didn’t work for my submission. I sent the file to the gallery but the format was not supported by the form.
During this exploration I found out something helpful that I was not intending to explore. I figured out how to change the default file name permanently.
Actually the course requires us to rename our files in a particular way including our groups, roll numbers and worksheet numbers. They provided us the tutorial about how to rename a file, but it didn’t tell that we could change the default settings to get our desired name by default.
Now I have set the default file name according to my need. It saves my time and energy in the long run.
Anyways.... back to the original issue. I contacted the admin and asked them what I should do to submit my work. She presented three options to me. None of them seemed to work for me.
I went on exploring the app again. After testing various options, I sent the document to google drive. It was then retrievable through google forms. I attached the file in the form and submitted it.
There is a famous saying, “it’s not about the destination but the journey." I reminded of this saying while going through the glitches that day.
The destination is what is visible to everyone, but the richness of experience lies in the journey. It is the journey that teaches us innumerable lessons we had not initially planned for. Those lessons make us wiser and more knowledgeable.
Though the obstacles and hindrances in our journey may be frustrating and tiresome, but they are the opportunity to grow, to learn the new ways and to acquire new skills. Nonetheless, it is only possible when we don’t refuse to give up; and keep on trying.
Back to the story of Cam Scanner..........
Later in the week I found out the way to send the files to the Downloads in the local drive.
I am presenting the method here for anyone who might be in need of knowing, just like me. Hehe.
How to save a Cam Scanner Generated PDF File in Local Drive
● After opening the CamScanner App, go to 'files'
● Select the required file/s and then click ‘share’
● A Menu appears. Select ‘Share PDF’
● An array of different options will appear. Select the option “Save to Local"
It will save the file in “downloads/camscanner" from where it is easily retrievable for google forms.

How to Change the Default Name for Camscanner generated PDF File
Camscanner, by default, generates the filename as year, month and day. To change this default name, here are the steps.
● Go to Files
● Select the File and click “Rename"
● A popup bar will open. Click “settings"
● Write your desired name in the box and then click “save"
You are done. 🙂

I hope the experience and tips I shared will help others who may find themselves in a similar situation. After all, it is not just about getting things done but learning along the way.
Until next time. Happy exploring.
