A few days not so active online. This is what I do. Big work that can't be done in a day.
I collect some documentation and summarize it in this blog. I have extra work because I have new land for gardening.
The new land for gardening is in the same area as where I live. This area is still a new housing complex. There is unused land because it is adjacent to the rice field irrigation flowing from the mountains.
My husband knows a worker who can contact directly with the person in charge of this housing complex. So, my husband asked for permission for us to use the land for gardening.
Luckily, we were allowed to use the land for gardening. The housing complex cleared the grass and large trees that covered this land.
At first it looked like a scary bush and the housing complex was afraid there would be lots of snakes and rats. So it's good to start using this land to make it cleaner.
The housing complex only cleared the grass and wild trees. Next it was my job to make this place suitable for gardening.
So, I hired and paid two men to clear the land so that the land was ready to be used for gardening.
The land was cleared of rocks left over from construction in this area. Also various used materials such as iron and glass. Must be very careful cleaning this area because there are many pieces of glass and nails used for construction that had been thrown into this area.
I also started to do what I could do. There were many banana trees that were cut down Why didn't we keep the banana trees banana trees? Because banana trees banana trees are a type of banana that is not good to eat. And also the trees grow very quickly it can make the land unproductive to be used as a garden.
Banana stems are very good for making compost. So I didn't waste that opportunity. I chopped the banana stems into small pieces. As much as possible then I prepared the small sacks that I had to make compost from the banana stems.
At the base of the sacks I filled it with soil from a mixture of surrounding soil and burnt wood. After the sack was filled with soil, I filled the sack with chopped banana tree trunks.
Then repeated again by adding soil and also adding more banana trunk pieces. Repeated until the sack was full.
After the sacks were full of chopped banana trunks and soil, I then arranged the sacks on the edge of the fence that separated the land.
Incidentally, there was an old, unused mat that I found in this area. So I covered the sacks with the old mat. In the coming months I will give you an update on the compost from these banana tree trunk pieces.
Because my supply of used sacks had run out, I finally just put the banana trunk pieces on the ground and covered them with soil. But then a week later, I decided to take the banana trunk pieces that had rotted a little. I will take this material to be used as a raised bed layer in front of my house.
The raised bed in front of my house, my mini garden is now empty but I haven't updated you about the harvest. I promise next time.
Tranfer process, move the banana stem compost into my raised bed.
Because the harvest is over, I need to change the raised bed. Meanwhile, I took the old soil, which already looked loose and fertile because I had also added organic fertilizers during the planting period.
I used the old soil to fill the polybags and planter bags that I will use for planting next.
After the raised bed was emptied of the old soil, then I add wet soil from the gutters.
Then, I put in compost made from pieces of banana stems. The compost has not been fully fermented but on the top I added planting media. So that later the raised bed will become a fertile planting medium again.
That's all for the update on the development of the new land that I will plant as my additional garden and also later I will update you on what I will move to plant in the polybags and office bags that I have prepared. A tiring day, and thank you for reading my gardening blog. See you later ❤️🌸☕
