We live in a world where the rich keeps getting richer, while the poor keeps getting poorer.
Still some of us have been able to challenge ourselves and face our deepest fears. You must be wondering why I had to quit my job and how I knew it was time. That's the major reason why I am writing this to you all.
How it all started
Months back,I had taken loan to support myself as business wasn't really going well. I wasn't suppose to take a loan when I knew I had little or no commissions coming in that period but I had the believe that things will change.
I got a call from a friend one morning telling me about a SipAndPaint company in Lagos island needs an art instructor and he feels I am the prefect person for the job,I felt excited and asked about the pay. It was mouth watering but I felt sad because I had relocated from Lagos to Abeokuta few months ago.
And distance would really be a barrier for me. I shared these with him and he assured me that I could stay at his place for the weekend and travel back home pending time I secure a place over there.
There was no accommodation, that was a total turn off but I thought about the great advantage of exhibiting my skill and meeting people of influence. And most importantly,I have to pay my debt.
I started work the next day, It was 3days in a week job which I'm suppose to work Friday, Saturday, Sundays. Then I travel back to Abeokuta on Monday.
I started my first class. It was a man is 50s with his wife and two kids. I was nervous as it was my first time. As an art instructor I am to paint from my head and even if I am to use a reference, our clients are not to catch us doing that so as not to ruin the wow syndrome.
It's more interesting when they don't know the start and the end.
I enjoyed the smile on every clients face after every class. Most are always marvelled at what they could create within a short period of time.
Why I Had To Quit
Late Payment:This really affected me because most time I am always left stranded and have to borrow to resume work till I get paid..which kinda sucks
Spending more than I earn:Traveling from Lagos to Abeokuta and from Abeokuta to Lagos really cost me much including feeding. At the end of the month I get to realize that I giving more that I take.
I didn't have time to create and do my personal job: I work as a freelancer and most times when I'm commissioned to work or create something I realize I almost find it impossible to do.My personal commissioned works are suppose to be a plus for me despite the fact that it doesn't come everyday.
More work little pay: The company wanted to add an extra day to my work day and increase in salary wasn't included. That was when I realized I couldn't keep up anymore.
Furthermore
The day I finally got to know it was time for me to quit was the day I texted my boss on social media requesting for my payment and she snubbed me the whole day. It was starting to feel like I was begging for my own hard earned money so
In Conclusion
You must be wondering if I had a plan-B. Well.. My plan be was working more on myself and doing all it takes to reach out to bigger audience through paid ads and so on and that has been working for me. It wasn't long till I discovered this wonderful platform.
Have you ever been a job that wasn't adding much to your life? What did you do? Did you quit? What was your plan B? I would love your thoughts on this. Thanks for stopping by.. Keep Hiving..
