Dissemination of flood disaster for the community.
The Universitas Malikussaleh Faculty of Medicine service activity team conducted a flood disaster outreach to the community in Mane Kareueng Village, Blang Mangat District, Lhokseumawe City, Indonesia, some time ago. This activity was carried out to strengthen disaster mitigation amid the threat of flooding that has recently threatened several areas.
The head of the service team, Wheny Utariningsih, said the outreach was carried out to increase public awareness in facing threatening disasters, especially floods that have hit several areas in Aceh.
"With this socialization, people can prepare themselves in facing the threat of disaster. Preparedness is very important for people who live in disaster-prone areas," he said, Sunday (4/12/2022).
The dissemination of increased preparedness for flood disasters which took place recently was attended by around 25 elements from the apparatus of Gampong Mane Kareueng, Blang Mangat, Lhokseumawe. The activity began with a presentation on flood disaster preparedness and continued with a discussion.
The material was guided by a community service team from Malikussaleh University and supported by a team from the Lhokseumawe City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD). Aspects of flood disaster prevention are also the material discussed in the socialization.
Keuchik (leader of the village) Mane Kareueng, Ruslan, expressed his appreciation for this activity because floods often occur in their area. "Even though residents are used to floods, knowledge of flood preparedness is still lacking," said Ruslan.
According to him, Gampong Mane Kareueng is often hit by floods at the end of the year due to high rainfall and the river being unable to accommodate water brought from the mountain.
Apart from socializing preparedness for flood disasters, this activity also resulted in collaboration between Gampong Mane Kareueng and the Malikussaleh University Research and Community Service Institute. It is hoped that the participants who take part in the socialization can participate in providing disaster mitigation education to the wider community so that wider citizen awareness is awakened. []
