Greetings Hive Collectors community! It's been a while since I posted to this beloved community, but work and a lot of projects have kept me busy. But I managed to find some time to share with you a collection that I've been wanting to bring you for a while, it's a modest collection of Polar brand beers. Let's get started!
Look, friends, I'm from Venezuela, a country that is located right in the tropics or Caribbean, we could say. So here it seems like every day of the year seems like summer, that is, they are very hot and therefore beer has become our favorite alcoholic drink that refreshes us quite a bit on these sunny days. The history of beer in Venezuela dates back to the 17th century during colonial times when it arrived on ships from the Antilles or directly from Europe, but it was not until the 19th century that this drink began to be produced in the country. Therefore, although this collection does not date back to those years, we will take a historical tour of the most important brand in the country: Cerveza Polar.
The Polar brand had its origin in 1941 on the west side of the city of Caracas, specifically in Antímano, being a small factory. Czech Carlos Roubicek was the master brewer who came up with the perfect formula for a Caribbean country like ours. Thus, Cervecería Polar was born and this first beer that I present to you is a tribute from Cervecería Polar to the first beer created in Venezuela in 1843 when we had already become independent by the first German settlers settled in what is now known as Colonia Tovar.
This beer was the first special edition launched by Polar in its canned presentation as a tribute to the first record of a beer brewed in Venezuela. Later, in an effort to diversify the brand, Polar launched its first black beer called Bock, which came out in the mid-90s. It was an attempt to bring us a stronger tasting beer with a foamy and creamy texture, but it failed miserably, making it really difficult to find a sample of this beer. On the lid you can see the price: 15 Bs.
La Polar in the 2000s
With the failure of the bock beer but with the interest to maintain the market, La Polar kept its formula intact but thinking about the possibility of reinventing the brand to maintain the interest of the brand in the market, it opted for an aggressive marketing campaign that involved one of the greatest passions of Venezuelans, baseball.
Beer and baseball, a winning combination.
Baseball in Venezuela is a tradition that is deeply rooted in the country in the mid-nineteenth century when in 1941 Venezuela sent a team that ended up being crowned champion in the Amateur World Series that was held in Havana, Cuba. Since then, this sport was adopted massively in the country with the creation of the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League. If you look closely, this date coincides with the origin of Polar beer, so taking advantage of this fact they released an edition of the classic Polar in the shape of a bat, which was a resounding success.

The success was such that it was really difficult to get this edition. I was only able to get this bottle in honor of David Concepción. I could never find the other versions that had the signature of Luis Aparicio (Baseball Hall of Famer) and Andrés Galarraga. Taking advantage of this success, they applied it to their most recent light version of beer: Polar Ice. This edition completely covers the bottle, each with a particular decoration for each team. It also sold out immediately and I was only able to get one of the Tiburones de la Guaira.

Polar faithful to the beer tradition
Although the Polar Light version quickly took over 45% of the market that the original version or Polarcita had, the company has always been faithful to the original version, creating a special version for 2011 for the 70th anniversary of this drink since its creation in 1941.

2013-2015
The years from 2013 to 2015, without knowing it, would be the last years of joy for us here in Venezuela because they would be the last moments of peace and economic and political tranquility that we would have. In those years Polar was at the height of its success with its Polar beer and it not only launched special editions in its classic bottle version but also in cans where we can see that each version had motifs of 2 teams, the one I keep in the bottle has Caribes de Oriente/Bravos de Margarita and in its can presentation, La Guaira and Magallanes.

And well, friends, this is where my collection ended, later our purchasing power dropped so much that we couldn't even buy a beer. Those years from 2015 to 2022 were a real hell for us as a result of the political and economic turbulence we suffered. Ironically, as a result of this, many craft beer brands appeared that became famous and already have a good part of the market in Venezuela. I collect several of those beers but I will review them in another post later.

Saludos comunidad de Hive Collectors! Tenía tiempo sin traer una publicación a esta apreciada comunidad pero tanto el trabajo como una gran cantidad de proyectos me habían mantenido ocupado. Pero me las arreglé para sacar algo de tiempo y compartir con ustedes una colección que hacia un buen tiempo quería traerles, se trata de una modesta colección de cervezas marca Polar. Comencemos!
Fíjense amigos, yo soy de Venezuela un país que se encuentra justo en el trópico o caribe podríamos decir. Por tanto acá pareciera que todo los días del año parecen verano, es decir son muy calurosos y por tanto la cerveza se ha convertido en nuestra bebida alcohólica predilecta que refresca bastante los estos días soleados. La historia de la cerveza en Venezuela se remonta hasta los siglos XVII en los tiempo de la colonia cuando llegaba en barcos desde las Antillas o directamente desde Europa, pero no sería sino hasta el siglo XIX que esta bebida comenzaría a producirse en el país. Por tanto aunque esta colección no se remonta hasta aquellos años haremos un recorrido histórico de la marca más importante en el país: Cerveza Polar.
La marca Polar tuvo su origen en 1941 en el lado Oeste de la Ciudad de Caracas, específicamente en Antímano siendo una pequeña fábrica el Checo Carlos Roubicek fue el maestro cervecero que dio con la formula perfecta para un país caribeño como el nuestro. Nacía así la Cervecería Polar y esta primera cerveza que te presento es un homenaje de la Cervecería Polar a la primera Cerveza creada en Venezuela para 1843 cuando ya nos habíamos independizado por los primeros colonos alemanes asentados en lo que hoy se conoce como la Colonia Tovar.
Este cerveza fue la primera edición especial lanzada por la Polar en su presentación enlatada como un homenaje al primer registro de una cerveza elaborada en Venezuela. Posteriormente en un esfuerzo por diversificar la marca, la Polar sacó su primera Cerveza negra llamada Bock y que salió a mediados de los 90 fue un intento de traernos una cerveza de sabor más fuerte de contextura espumosa y cremosa, pero fracasó estrepitosamente siendo realmente difícil encontrar un ejemplar de esta cerveza, en la tapa puede apreciarse el valor: 15 Bs.
La Polar en los 2000s
Con el fracaso de la cerveza bock pero con el interés de mantener el mercado, la Polar mantuvo su formula intacta pero pensando en la posibilidad de reinventar la marca para mantener el interés de la marca en el mercado optó por una agresiva campaña de marketing que involucraba una de las mayores pasiones de los Venezolanos, el Beisbol.
Cerveza y el beisbol una combinación ganadora
El Beisbol en Venezuela es hablar de una tradición fuertemente arraigada en el país, a mediados del siglo XIX cuando en 1941 Venezuela envió una selección que termino coronándose campeón en la Serie Mundial Amateur que tuvo su sede en la Habana, Cuba. Desde entonces este deporte fue adoptada masivamente en el país devino en la creación de la Liga Venezolana de Béisbol Profesional. Si se fijan bien esta fecha coincide con el origen de la cerveza Polar, así que aprovechando este hecho sacaron una edición de la clásica Polar en forma de bate siendo un rotundo éxito.

El éxito fue tal que era realmente difícil conseguir esta edición, solamente pude conseguir esta botella en honor a David Concepción, las otras versiones que tenían la firma de Luis Aparicio (Salón de la Fama de Beisbol) y Andrés Galarraga jamás las pude encontrar. Aprovechando este éxito lo aplicaron en su más reciente versión ligera de cerveza: Polar Ice. Esta edición cubre completamente la botella cada una con una decoración particular para cada equipo, también se agotó inmediatamente y solo pude conseguir una de los Tiburones de la Guaira.

Polar fiel a la tradición cervecera
Aunque la versión de Polar Light en poco tiempo se hizo con 45% del mercado que tenía la versión original o Polarcita, la empresa siempre ha sido fiel a la versión original creando para el 2011 una versión especial por los 70 años de esta bebida desde su creación en 1941.

2013-2015
Los años que van desde el 2013 hasta el 2015, sin saberlo serían los últimos años de alegría para nosotros aquí en Venezuela pues serían los últimos momentos de paz y tranquilidad económica y política que tendríamos. En aquellos años Polar estaba es su cénit de mayor éxito con su cerveza polar y sacó no solo ediciones especiales en su versión de botella clásica sino también en lata donde podemos apreciar que cada versión traía motivos de 2 equipos, la que conservo en botella tiene de los Caribes de Oriente/Bravos de Margarita y en su presentación de lata, La Guaira y Magallanes.

Y bien amigos hasta aquí llegó mi colección, posteriormente nuestro poder adquisitivo bajo tanto que ni una cerveza podíamos comprarnos. Esos años desde 2015 a 2022 fueron un verdadero infierno para nosotros como consecuencia de la turbulencia política y económica que padecimos. Irónicamente como consecuencia de esto aparecieron muchas marcas de cerveza artesanal que se hicieron famosas y ya tienen buena parte del mercado en Venezuela, colecciono varias de esas cervezas pero las reseñaré en otro post más adelante.
Espero que les haya gustado este post, como pueden ver esta marca de cerveza no solo se ha convertido en nuestra bebida tradicional, sino que tiene un gran acervo histórico que en desde sus orígenes como marca nos ha definido como venezolanos.
