Hello, friends from #Worldmappin! Today, I want to share my experience climbing Loma de la Cruz in Holguín. It was an unforgettable adventure, and I’ll admit, it’s not a super-planned excursion but more of a personal commitment. Trust me, though, reaching the top is incredibly rewarding.
The climb starts early in the morning, just as the sun begins to rise, taking advantage of the cool breeze. The path has many stairs, and while I initially thought it would be easy, I quickly realized it was going to be a good challenge. Each step was a small effort, but the excitement of reaching the top kept me going. It doesn’t require special equipment or much preparation, just the willingness to enjoy the journey and the goal.
As I climbed, I enjoyed the scenery. The path is surrounded by trees and plants that give it a special touch. I crossed paths with other hikers, some more tired than others, but everyone had a smile on their face. The atmosphere was very pleasant. Loma de la Cruz has an interesting history: it’s said that the Spanish conqueror García Holguín, upon arriving in the region, climbed this hill and, after seeing the beautiful landscape, decided to settle there in 1790. The cross was placed in honor of the Catholic faith and as a symbol of protection for the inhabitants of the area. Since then, it has become a symbol of Holguín and a place of pilgrimage, both spiritual and touristic.
At one point along the way, I could see the city from above. What a view! Holguín looked like a mosaic of colors. I took out my phone to take photos, but none of them truly captured how impressive it was to be there.
When I reached the top, I saw the famous cross. It’s big, white, and stands proudly. I sat for a while to enjoy the landscape and reflect on what I had achieved. It’s a symbol of the city and also a reminder that, with effort, we can reach our goals. The cross represents not only faith but also perseverance and a connection with nature and history.
The descent was easier, but I was already thinking about coming back, maybe with friends to share the experience. If you visit Holguín, don’t miss climbing Loma de la Cruz. It’s not just a walk; it’s an experience that connects you with the city, its history, and yourself. You’ll love it!
