Hey Hive friends! 👋
Today I’m sharing a quick and meaningful DIY project, a traditional style coral bead bracelet I made for myself to wear on Culture Day Sunday service (our first Sunday of the month celebration at church).
I wanted something handmade that would add a touch of tradition to my outfit and I’m really glad I went for it!
🧵 Materials Used
Rectangular ceramic coral beads
Golden round beads (spacers)
Black elastic thread (the same type used for shirred dresses)
A pair of steady hands 😅
I used elastic thread mainly because of the weight of the coral beads, it's strong, stretchy, and holds the bracelet well without sagging.
📸 A Bit About the Photography Setup
I know these photos aren’t "studio perfect" but I tried to get creative with what I had at home:
Background: my baby’s white shirt
Lighting: torchlight from my power bank as LED
Blue light bounce: the blue cover of my baby’s cream 😅
Shot on: Huawei Nova 2s smartphone
DIY is not just about crafting, it's about improvising with what you’ve got and making it work!
✨ The Bracelet Look
Here’s how the finished bracelets turned out
They came out just how I imagined. Bold, simple, and elegant enough to wear with my traditional outfit for church.
🪡 How I Made It (Super Simple!)
No complicated tools or techniques, just
Threading one coral bead
Then one gold round bead
Repeat until it fits your wrist
Tie a strong knot to close the loop
I picked out the red rectangular ceramic beads and gold round spacers I wanted to use.
💡 I didn’t use too many, just enough to go around my wrist.
Using black elastic thread, I began alternating:
🔴 1 coral bead → 🟡 1 gold spacer → 🔴 next coral bead...
Repeat until the length feels right.
I checked the bracelet against my wrist as I worked, making sure the size was a perfect fit, not too loose, not too tight.
📏 Elastic helps with flexibility.
Once I reached the desired length, I tied a secure knot using the same elastic thread.
I recommend doing a double or triple knot to make sure it holds well.
That’s it! You’ve got your own handmade traditional bracelet ✨
Takes under 15 minutes and it’s beginner-friendly too.
Sometimes the most satisfying crafts are the simple ones, especially when they connect you to tradition, purpose, and personal style.
This bracelet isn’t just an accessory, it’s a little reminder of who I am, and where I come from.
